 3.3 How to Setup Static IP Address in Run

Step 1. Search “Run” and in Run, type ncpa.cpl, Click “ok”. This will open network
connections window.

Step 2. In Network Connections, right click your network and choose properties.

Step 3. In Properties, double click Step 4. This will show up. Click use the
Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) following IP address. Same with DNS
option.

Step 5. Now open Command Prompt and type IPCONFIG/all. Then type everything you saw in
CMD.

Step 6. Tick Validate settings upon exit to test if its working and click “ok”.

Now it’s validating……….

After validating, this will show up. It seems that this works without any issues. Now we can add
Active Directory Domain Services role and promote this server as domain controller.

 3.4 How to add Active Directory Domain Services role in Windows Server
2016

Step 1. Click the Windows logo and choose Server Manager.

Step 2. In Server Manager, click Add roles ad features.

Step 3. Choose Role-based or feature-based installations then click “Next”.

Step 4. Just click “Next”.

Step 5. Choose Active Directory Domain services, then double click it.

Step 6. Click “Add Features” that are required for Active Directory Domain Services.

Step 7. In this window just leave it as is and click “Next”.

Step 8. Click “Next”.

Step 9. Check the checkbox restart the destination server automatically if required and click
“Install”.

Step 10. Installing…, wait for the installation to finish.

Step 11. Now it’s done, click close. We’re now going to proceed in promoting a server as a
domain controller.

 3.5 How to Promote a Server as a Domain Controller

Step 1. In Server Manager, go to upper right and click the flag icon. Then click the link saying
“Promote this server to a domain controller”.

Step 2. Choose Add a new forest since this is a newly installed AD computer. In Root domain
name, type your desired domain name. After that, click “Next”.

Step 3. Enter your Administrator password, then click “Next”.

Step 3. Just click “Next” until we reached the prerequisite check.

In this window you will determine if the computer is capable of promoting this server as a
domain controller. Once everything is completed, click install. After the installation, your
computer will ask for reboot, just let it reboot.

Step 4. After rebooting this window will show up, just click the “Input” then “Keyboard” and
choose “Insert Ctrl+Alt+Del”. Then type your password and click enter.

 3.6 How will you know that the server was successfully promoted as a
domain controller

Step 1. Search for windows administrative tools and click it.

Step 2. Open ADSI edits from Windows Administrative Tools.

Step 3. Click “Action” and choose “Connect to…”.

Step 3. Type the domain name you entered earlier under the computer section then click “Ok”.

Step 4. We are successfully promoted this server as domain controller

Note: A DN is a unique database name for every AD object made up of hierarchical sequence of
relative distinguished names (RDN) connected by commas.
