I’m a student at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester,
England. It’s a school for talented musicians. Chetham’s is a
small school, with only 300 students, but a lot of them come
from other countries. Some students can’t speak English
very well, but the teachers are kind and there is a lot of extra
help for them. A lot of the students live at the school, but
some of them go home in the evenings, too.
My instrument is the violin. I know it sounds arrogant, but
I can play it very well. I have three hours of music tuition
every day. Some of that is private lessons, and I study music
writing, too. I also play in an orchestra, and in smaller
groups of three or four musicians. At the moment, three
friends and I are practising for a concert next week.
Of course, I have normal lessons too, and I’m studying for
ten GCSE exams. This means my timetable is very full and
I need to be organized! I’m good at history, geography, and
languages, but I can’t do maths very well!
The students have free time every week, and the school
offers lots of different activities. I like to go out with friends,
and my friend Alice and I make cakes, too. Alice can cook
brilliantly. I love her food, but she’s very modest about it!
I’m quite good at art, and at the moment, I’m painting a
picture of the view from my bedroom window. Chetham’s is
a beautiful school – I know I’m very lucky to be here.
