Vocabulary Lesson Reflection

Overall, I felt very confident about my vocabulary lesson. I was nervous about the timing

because I did not want to rush anything that I was doing, but I wanted to make sure that I got to

everything. I knew that if this was a real lesson, I would have more time to teach the lesson, but

it was nice that my peers were able to understand the directions easier than a second-grade class

would have, so I did not need to spend as much time going over directions. I felt confident in

myself and my lesson.

The day before my presentation I tested out my idea for making paper cubes and using

them in the lesson. However, when testing it I realized that the cubes did not work out the way

that I wanted to, and they were flimsy. I had to try something new out and came up with the idea

of a flipbook. I still kept the same idea of each group getting a word and definition and becoming

masters of that word then sharing knowledge with the class, but I modified the format. Right

before the lesson I came up with the idea of each group being able to add their own ideas to the

books so that they were actively learning the vocabulary, not just reading about it. It required the

students to think deeper about the words and use their own knowledge.
