Self-Reflection

This year I learned about myself I don’t know how to study, and I am resilient. I learned that trying

to do a whole bunch of clubs was a bad idea. For the fact trying to juggle time was very stressful and I

missed a lot of events. Though I did realize that if I can survive AP Bio, I feel like college might be slightly

easier. As for writing planning and not just trying to write the essay with any type of plan has made

essays a little less painful. Yes, it takes more time to do an outline, but it makes writing my essay much

easier and quicker. Also, writing about a book is much more fun then researching a non-fiction topic.

I feel that my writing has improved so much since last year but, I still seem to make the same

common mistakes. My biggest problem I need to work on is proofreading it is a such an important step

because it could help me get those extra couple of points. Though I fail to proofread because after

writing the essay I feel it is good enough when it isn’t. I still need to learn and work on my grammar skills

because that is where I lose most of my points on my essay. I place commas in random places at time or

completely forget to put them at all. Or I don’t know when to use those dash things that I don’t even

know the name. Also, I need to work on formatting my ideas better in a paragraph instead of spilling

them all out and they make no sense.

I would say my favorite assignment was when we made a new book cover for the book we read.

That is because I could express myself and use my creative side which I really like to do. Useful

assignments were vocabulary related and different brainstorm and planning for my essay. I liked the

vocabulary because it gave me a new range of words that I can use in my essays or sounding more

intelligent when I speak. I liked the brainstorm for essays, so I had to process what I was writing about

and didn’t feel rushed. The planning for the essay helped so I could write an essay that didn’t just sound

like I wrote it the night before.

In the future for essays, I write for college applications and in college I have a pretty good idea as to

a plan of action. I will first do my research and organize all my sources into document. Then I would

form a thesis because I feel like it helps to focus and pull the information I need and create some type of

outline. I will make sure I use a grammar checker or someone who is smart with grammar to check my

essay. Continually, I will proofread my essay multiple times and not just turn it in. Then finally I will read

it out loud.
