Self-Reflection
This school year, I have learned how I like to write essays. This includes getting the
thesis after doing research, multiple people editing the rough draft, and reading it aloud. I also
learned transition words, and nothing words. This year I have learned that I like reading, and the
type of books that I enjoy. Before this class I had not read a book for fun in years, now I have
books that I am interested in such as The Song of Achillies, and The Inheritance Games series. I
have also learned that I can write a great deal about subjects that I am interested in.
I still need to work on commas, using transition words, and not using nothing words.
Commas are hard to fix because it can be difficult to find where they go, and where they should
not be. Transition words are hard to fix because they change the sentence. To correct them you
must try to reword the sentence so that it still makes sense. Nothing words are easy to fix
because of the find and search tool on word, and then using synonyms for the word. I need to get
better at working on the essay for a longer period, and not wait to do it until the day it is due.
My favorite assignment was the Literary Criticism Essay. This is because we got to write
about a book that I chose, so it was something I was interested in. There were also numerous
choices to write the essay about after already choosing your book. I also enjoyed doing the
vocabulary assignments, because they helped me learn words that I did not know before. I saw

some of the words later in the year in other subjects, which helped me understand the reading
better. I saw some of the words on the SAT, and without knowing them from this class, I would
not have understood what the passages were saying. The resume was one of the most helpful
assignments because it helped me update it before I used it to apply for a job. Doing rough drafts
and brainstorming for essays was also helpful to write the final draft.
When given an essay in the future I will research what I am writing about. Then I will
create a thesis. After that, I would find support to back up my thesis, then write a rough draft of
my essay. Next, I would read it to find any mistakes, and then have someone else edit it to find
other mistakes. Then I would fix all the errors and write my final draft. Finally, I would read it
