 Introduction
Welcome to the AccuMark Family software. AccuMark software is the standard for pattern design,
grading and marker making/nesting in the apparel, transportation interiors, furniture and industrial fabrics
industries. It is used by thousands of companies worldwide in more than 24 languages.

We offer two versions of AccuMark - Advanced Edition, to satisfy the needs of first-time automation users
and Professional Edition, for the seasoned CAD user. For more information, please visit

System Requirements
• Adjust the power switch on the back of the computer in accordance to the local power settings (either
115 VAC or 220 VAC).
• All systems require a mouse or compatible pointing device and a standard keyboard.
• A DVD drive is needed for installing software unless you have downloaded the installation from the
GT software download website.
• System settings for Colors must be set higher than 256 Colors.
• Parallel or USB port for workstation security for the security dongle (key). Network connection for
Concurrent or Networked security.

Note: USB to parallel port devices do not generally work with parallel security dongles. It is
recommended to request a Gerber USB security dongle replacement or to use a PCMCIA card.

• You must be logged on as an administrator to properly install the software. You may not be
fully able to uninstall an application under Windows if you are not logged on with the same privileges
that you had when you installed the application. For further details please refer to the Configuration
Notes for Windows.

• Latest Service Packs: AccuMark version 8.0.5 and later installations require that you have the latest
windows service packs installed before proceeding with the installation of AccuMark software.

• Windows Professional Updates: It is highly recommended to keep your systems up to date with the
latest Microsoft Windows critical updates. Windows Updates can be downloaded from Microsoft’s
website. From the Start Menu, select All Programs followed by Windows Update. Note this requires
an Internet connection.

• Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 or higher must be installed. Microsoft .NET Framework V3.5 SP1
is installed automatically beginning with AccuMark Family 8.4.0 installation. Windows XP SP2 users
may need to install “Windows Installer” prior to AccuMark software installation if the Microsoft .NET
Framework V3.5 SP1 fails to install properly, displaying an error message. Windows installer is
available from the Microsoft downloads website.

• Internet Explorer 7.0 or Internet Explorer 8.0 and curent service packs.

• Install Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the documentation. Additional training materials may require
Microsoft Office Word or Power Point applications or viewers.

Note: With the introduction of AccuMark 8.4.0, the software now supports 64-Bit operating systems. For
individual product restrictions/known limitations, please refer to the specific product’s Release Notes, for
example, the AccuNest or AccuScan Release Notes.

• Refer to the appropriate Release Notes for compatible optional equipment (plotters, digitizers,
networks, etc.).
• The use of disk compression utilities is not recommended.

1.1. Auto-Uninstall of Previous AccuMark software

If you run the installation of AccuMark version 8.0.5 or later and have a previous version of AccuMark V8
software, the installation will first remove the previous version. If your system does not meet the minimum
operating system requirements, you will not be able to proceed with the installation. You may return to a
previous version by re-installing that software.

1.2. Required User Permissions

There are many permutations and combinations of user permissions that an administrator can implement.
The AccuMark installation does not override security permissions (does not take ownership). Since an
administrator can create registry keys at most levels, it is required that a user with administrator privileges
perform all setups. You may want to check the permissions of AccuMark Family data and application
areas if users are having problems with data or programs.

Installation on AccuMark Professional or Advanced edition runs a security permission program at the end
of the install that sets administrator privileges for the Users group to AccuMark data (storage areas), its
program directories and registry entries. Setting Permissions provides the ability for non-administrator
users to access Gerber data and applications. For complete details, see Setting Permissions.

appropriate security settings to run the applications, please follow the System Requirements link from the

Additional Requirements
• Microsoft Critical Updates which can be found by clicking the Start, All Programs, Windows Update
on your XP or Vista System. Note that this requires an Internet connection.
• In XP, turn off Fast User Switching when creating new users. If this is turned on, it will result in
configuration errors. Fast User Switching is not supported in Vista. Do not use Switch User with
Windows 7 operating systems.
• In XP, turn off Simple File Sharing through the Tools, Folder Options in Windows Explorer or Control
Panel.

 1.3.1.Windows Firewall with Windows XP SP3

Note beginning with XP SP2 and higher that a newer, more capable Windows Firewall is installed and
many services and capabilities are automatically turned off or disabled for security reasons. If you are
having any problems running AccuMark Family software, please contact your Gerber customer support
representative or use the Gerber Firewall Assistant which is available from the GERBERnet software
download website.

1.4. Windows Vista Business, Enterprise or Ultimate Requirements

Windows Vista/Windows 7 Folder Virtualization

With Windows Vista Microsoft has changed where user account profile and program data gets stored.
Instead of storing all profile data under c:\Documents and Settings\ as they did with Windows XP, things
are now split between c:\Users\ and c:\ProgramData\ (on a standard installation).

Under User Account Control, Windows Vista and Windows 7 restrict portions of the Windows file system
and registry. UAC also restricts write operations during normal operation (i.e., standard user mode). For
example, applications no longer have unlimited access to C:\Program Files and C:\Windows. The system-
wide file system and Registry writes are automatically and silently redirected to per-user locations that
won't harm the wider system.

To accommodate existing software for Windows that writes to protected file directories, Microsoft
provides a backward compatibility technology known as Virtualization. Virtualization is often referred to as
data redirection because it functions by funneling attempted access to protected locations to new
locations stored under user profiles. For example, if a legacy application attempts to write to the Program
Files directory, UAC silently redirects that operation to an unprotected user-specific folder.

Note: AccuMark V8.2.2 and earlier releases are not compatible with Windows Vista. AccuMark V8.3 and
higher are provided for use on Windows Vista Business, Enterprise or Ultimate editions providing the
system meets the minimum requirements for Vista as listed above. AccuMark V8.4 and higher are
provided for use on Windows 7 Ultimate and Professional providing the system meets the minimum
requirements for Windows 7 listed above.

Using SQL 2005/2008 Express or SQL 2005/2008 Server for

AccuMark storage areas
AccuMark data can be optionally stored in SQL databases instead of or in addition to the userroot-type
storage areas. These SQL databases are equipped to look and feel the same as userroot storage with
several advantages:
o Eliminates the potential for file-locking problems that can occur across networks as with userroot-type
storage areas
o Increased limit for data, now up to 100,000 data items per data type
o Allows the ability to create sub-storage areas or sub-folders
o Allows the ability to set allow or deny permissions to individual storage areas
o Allows the ability to set read or write permissions to individual data types

AccuMark Supported SQL Versions

o AccuMark Version 8.1 supports SQL Server 2000 or MSDE 2000
o AccuMark Version 8.2 supports SQL 2005 or SQL 2005 Express in addition to SQL Server 2000 and
MSDE 2000
o AccuMark Version 8.3 supports SQL 2005 or SQL 2005 Express and SQL Server 2000
o Starting with AccuMark Version 8.3.1 also supports SQL 2008 Express or SQL 2008
o AccuMark Version 8.4 supports SQL 2005, SQL 2005 Express, SQL 2008, and SQL 2008 Express

NOTE: MSDE is not supported in Windows operating systems newer than Windows XP.

It is highly recommended to use the same version of SQL for all systems that will be accessing the same
storage areas for compatibility purposes.

NOTE: Subfolders for SQL storage areas were implemented in AccuMark V8.2 and WebPDM 5.1
release. Please see the What’s New document for detailed information on AccuMark subfolders for SQL
storage areas.

It is highly recommended to install the latest service packs and updates for SQL SQL 2005 Server
and SQL 2005 Express requires SP2

 1.5. SQL 2005 Express
SQL 2005 Express may be installed from the Supplemental Components V2 CD March 2007. Microsoft®
SQL Server 2005 Express is Microsoft's imbedded database engine. It is a free and easy-to-use version
of SQL Server 2005 that replaces the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE). SQL Server
2005 Express makes it easy to deploy powerful, secure, data-driven applications. SQL Server Express
can function as an embedded client database as well as a basic database server.

SQL 2005 Express.pdf available in the Training Docs Manuals folder on the AccuMark DVD.

1.5.1.Additional Requirements for SQL 2005 Express

In addition to the requirements listed above per operating system, SQL 2005 Express also requires:
o Microsoft .NET Framework
o Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or later (prerequisite for .NET Framework)
o 192 MB RAM minimum
o 600 MB free hard disk space
o Pentium III Compatible or higher processor (500 MHz minimum, recommended 1GHZ or higher)
o Windows XP Professional SP2, Windows Vista (other operating systems are supported, see
complete list in the Installation Requirements).
o On networked XP Professional systems, the user logins must have a password
associated with the user names. This applies for PC to PC network or accessing SQL
2005 Express. The standard behavior for XP requires a password

1.5.2.sa password (System Administrator)

It is highly recommended to enter a sa password when prompted during the install (do not leave the SQL
2005 Express instance with a blank password). Entering an sa password will help prevent disastrous
worms from trying to log into the default instance of a SQL/SQL 2005/SQL 2008 Express server with a
blank (null) sa password, thus helping to prevent it from infecting your server. Refer to Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article 313418 for details.

1.5.3. Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE)

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) provides a graphical management tool for
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. For more details refer to the Microsoft SQL Server Management
Studio Express link on the Supplemental Components V2 CD.

It is recommended to use the Backup and Restore utility in SSMSE for backing up and restoring
AccuMark storage areas with SQL 2005 Express. See the Backup and Restore for SQL 2005
Express.doc in the AccuMark Manuals folder.

1.5.4. Upgrading MSDE to SQL Server Express

If you currently have MSDE installed, it is recommended to install SQL 2005 Express as a separate
instance and then copy existing MSDE storage areas into new SQL 2005 Express storage areas. See
Installing SQL 2005 Express.pdf for detailed information (available in the AccuMark Manuals folder).

SQL 2005 Express may be installed from the Supplemental Components V2 CD March 2007. SQL 2005
Express is a reliable storage engine and query processor that runs on most operating systems and is
redistributed royalty free. It is a low cost option for a database server.

SQL 2005 Express Notes:

• Language dependant
• SQL 2005 Express by default uses Windows Authentication
• SQL Server may also be used to access AccuMark SQL storage areas and is recommended

 for use with large AccuMark systems. Refer to the section, Supported SQL Server
Configurations for details. Additional setup information can be found in the document,
Management of AccuMark Data storage using MS-SQL-2000 Server.
• Database size is limited to 2GB
• Runs best with 5 or fewer concurrent users when using database transactions (read, write,
moving of data, order process or similar operations). You can have more than 5 concurrent
users manipulating data. However, when the SQL 2005 Express reading and writing
transactions are run simultaneously, limitations are invoked.

1.6. Supported SQL Server Configurations

Shown below is GT’s recommendation for a SQL Server configuration for use with large AccuMark
systems. This configuration may be used as a guide in preparing similar configurations using locally
available PC servers.

1.6.1.Database Server Hardware General Requirements

1.6.2.Software

Notes:
AccuMark’s use of SQL Server is not a traditional database application. The AccuMark’s use of SQL
Server involves two database tables, one of which contains approximately a dozen type records. There
are no complex queries to be processed involving difficult joins or views. Indeed, there are only a handful
of simple queries that are used throughout the entire operation of AccuMark.

AccuMark’s use of SQL Server is limited to saving and retrieving BLOBS using simple queries. As a
result, the database server’s throughput will be limited only by disk performance and network limitations.
The database server’s CPU will not be consumed by traditional database operations, like optimizing
queries, handling indexed-based operations, etc. Our recommended hardware and software are based
on the preceding observations.

Disk Storage: Hardware RAID 5 should be specified for performance and reliability. 10,000 RPM SCSI
drives will provide the best performance. (UDMA 7,200 RPM drives, each with 8MB of cache would be

adequate.) To estimate the amount of disk storage space recommended, total the amount of disk storage
space used for data storage within the present AccuMark storage areas. Multiply this by two (for
database and RAID 5 overhead) and then multiply it by two again for future growth. For example, if the
customer currently has 15 GB of data, a total of 60 GB of storage should be ordered and configured using
RAID 5.

Network Interface: A NIC designed for server application including an on-board processor, should be
specified. 100 MBPS is a must. Most new servers now come with integrated 1000/100/10 Mbps Ethernet.

Memory: Memory is relatively inexpensive. Since only very simple database operations that are
performed by AccuMark, no great demand for memory is placed upon the system. 512 MB of RAM is
adequate. Yet memory is the cheapest technology and has the greatest performance benefit in a
server/database system. Since the cost difference between 512MB and 1GB or 2 GB is very small, 2GB
is recommended.

Software: SQL Server 2005/2008 Standard Edition, processor license version. Windows Server 2008
may also be used if the customer is comfortable with this latest OS from Microsoft.

Processor: Because of the light-weight queries, even a single processor will be adequate. Throughput will
not be limited by CPU speed. A single 2.0 GHz - 2.4 GHz processor may be used. The availability of a
dual processor upgrade option provides for future growth.

Power Backup: An APC 700va SmartUPS.

Data Backup: A DAT DDS4 20/40GB
Maintenance: A 56K modem and Diskeeper disk defragmentation software.

Software Installation Instructions

The Installation procedure for Release 8.4 will automatically install the following software on the
AccuMark system:
• Pattern Design
• ASTM Pattern Conversion Wizard
• AccuMark Batch Processing
• CSV Tools
• DXF Converter (DXF Import)
• Lconvert (Lectra to AccuMark)

Additional applications such as Winplot are included with the professional software license but
must be installed separately.

IMPORTANT!
Clock Date and Time
It is extremely important to check the date and time BEFORE proceeding with the installation of
the software. Turning back the clock once the software has been installed and running is strongly
discouraged!

Installing the AccuMark Professional Edition Release 8.4.0

IMPORTANT: Close any open programs before installing the software.

No Previous Version of AccuMark installed

Simply follow the Steps to Install below.

Previous Version of AccuMark 8.x installed
If a previous version of AccuMark 8.x is installed, it will automatically be uninstalled prior to
installing this software. A dialog box is displayed informing the user when the installation is
started.

Previous Version of AccuMark 7.6.x installed

If you have AccuMark version 7 software on your system, you must uninstall it first. Use the
Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel to remove this software.

Important! If you uninstall AccuMark V7 with previous V8 already installed:

When AccuMark V7 and V8 are installed on the same PC, AccuMark V8 must be reinstalled if
AccuMark V7 is uninstalled. Reinstalling V8 will restore the software environment so that V8 will
continue to run properly.

Steps to Install

1. Insert the DVD of AccuMark Professional release into the DVD drive, or locate the Setup
folder if the software was downloaded and saved to disk.
2. On most Windows systems setup will automatically start the installation when the DVD is
loaded. If AutoPlay is not enabled on your system,
a) From the Start menu, select Run…
b) Type e:\setup (where e: is the letter of your DVD drive)
c) Select OK

3. Install Acrobat Reader and view the documentation.

4. Click Install AccuMark.
5. You may be prompted by a Software Security Prerequisite. If you are installing the AccuMark
software for the first time, or if you are upgrading from a previous version you will be
prompted to update the software security drivers. Select OK to continue with the security
prerequisite.
6. You may select an alternate destination directory when prompted, or simply accept the
default folder.
7. For a standard installation select Typical. Selecting the Typical Setup type will assure all
required applications and files are installed.
8. You may be prompted to choose to overwrite only the Sample storage areas that are
installed with PE installations. Selecting Yes will remove any existing data in those storage
areas only, and re-copy the sample data. Selecting No will leave the current data intact. The
sample storage areas are GTBASICS, DATA70 and SIL2000. Overwriting these storage
areas will not affect any other user created storage areas.

 9. If you desire to use the Send To option (to email data) available in the AccuMark Explorer,
you must select one of the Email Options when prompted. This option will work with the
Email system that is installed on your PC. For instance, if you are using Microsoft Outlook,
select Microsoft Mail/Lotus cc:Mail option.
10. The installation will also launch a subsequent install for the Problem Report Utility for new
installations or if updates have been made to these applications. The Problem Report Utility
provides the ability to send electronic reports to GT.
11. The installation will also launch a subsequent install for the new GTLM Security for new
installations or if updates have been made to these applications. GTLM installs Sentinel
drivers and services that will be used for the V8 keys and license files.
12. On new installations a license agreement is displayed. Read and accept the terms of the
agreement.
13. An informational dialog box will display instructing the user how to install your license file.
This is only needed for new installations or purchased Upgrades (for example, 8.3 to 8.4).
V8.4.0 requires a new license file. Maintenance updates do not require re-installing your
license file (for example, 8.3.0 to 8.3.1). Refer to section 5 Software Security for details.
14. The security permission program is started at the end of the install to set administrator
privileges for the Users group to AccuMark data (storage areas) and program directories.
Setting Permissions provides the ability for non-administrator users to access Gerber data
and applications.
15. You can optionally view the Release Notes and What’s New documents at the end of the
installation, which will open the Release Notes using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
16. When the installation has completed, select Yes to restart your computer, if prompted.

License Agreement
When you run the AccuMark system for the first time after installing the software an approval of
the licensing agreement is necessary. Once the affirmative response has been entered, the
licensing agreement will not display again

Directory Structure
The installation creates the C:\USERROOT directory structure, which contains the data, required
by the system. The default program files are located in the subdirectories under c:\program
files\Gerber Technology, unless a different destination is chosen during the installation.

1.1. Hardware and Security

AccuMark Products use a combination of software based security technology and a hardware
security key (dongle) to license and protect the software. Version 8 software will not run on a
system that does not have access to a security key and license file.

1.1.1.Workstation Security
If you are using a workstation system with its own local security key and license file, attach the
security key (dongle) to the parallel or USB port of the PC or workstation. A Security License File
is unique to each security key (dongle). The combination of key and license file will allow
activation of the AccuMark Family software as stated in the software subscription contract.

 If you are using a workstation or a server that will be using concurrent licensing, please see the
document Concurrent Licensing that is in the AccuMark Manuals folder on the AccuMark DVD for
information.

1.1.2.Retrieving your License File

The security license file name is a combination of the product and key number with the file
extension of .lic, for example accumark123.lic. Copy the appropriate license file onto the system
with the matching key number.

If the license file was received through Email, save the attached file to a location on your hard
drive or on the desktop (for example, c:\program files\common files\gerber technology\gt license
manager). If the license file was received on a floppy, it may be installed directly from the floppy
and/or copied to your hard drive.

Important! Version 8.4.0 or higher will require a license upgrade from previous 8.3, 8.2, 8.1 or
8.0 software. If an 8.0.x, 8.1.x, 8.2.x or 8.3.x version of software is currently in use and will be
upgraded to 8.4.x, the license file must also be upgraded. Please contact your customer service
representative for assistance.

1.1.3.Software Security License – Install License program

The AccuMark Family Product DVD installs an Install License program that easily copies your
license file into the proper destination for use by AccuMark applications. Use the Install License
icon on the Desktop, or from the LaunchPad on the AccuMark Explorer/Utilities page, or use the
AccuMark V8 folder, select AccuMark Explorer/Utilities and then Install License.

A dialog box displays allowing you to choose the Product and source location for the license file
(use the ellipses (…) button to locate your license file). Note the key number in the dialog box
and match to the right license file. Run the program once for each Product. The program, by
default, looks for files of type .lic. It will prompt you to overwrite the existing license file if one
already exists.

The Install License application will automatically verify if your key and license file match, and then
display the license components allowing you to easily see the applications as specified by your
license entitlement.

1.2. Starting AccuMark Professional Edition Components

Start the AccuMark applications from the following locations:

1. From the Start menu select the Gerber LaunchPad G icon or, from the Desktop, double
click on the G icon if LaunchPad is not displayed. The AccuMark LaunchPad menu contains
the selections for Pattern Processing, Digitizing and Pattern Design, Marker Creation,
Editors, Plotting, Cutting, AccuMark Explorer and Utilities and documentation.

2. In addition, from the Start menu, applications can be accessed from the associated program
folders in AccuMark V8. Shortcuts to the desktop can also be created from this location.

1.3. Support/Problem Reporting Procedure

Using Standard AccuMark PE Test Data for System

This section describes the procedures for checking the AccuMark Professional Edition system by
using the standard version 7 test data, which is installed, in the DATA70 storage area. The
DATA70 storage area will automatically be installed during a typical installation if no other
storage area by that name exists, and may be optionally overwritten if the storage area already
exists.

It is recommended for users to create their own storage areas to contain their data (do not use
storage area names DATA70, GTBASICS, or SIL2000). These areas should only be used for
training or testing purposes.

DISPLAY A PIECE
From the LaunchPad menu select AccuMark Explorer

1. Select LADIES-BLOUSE-BK and open it in Pattern Design.

2. Bring piece into the work area and select View/Grades sizes.
3. Press right mouse button or cancel functions.
4. Exit Pattern Design.

ORDER A MARKER
From the LaunchPad menu select the Marker Creation, Editors page and
click on the Order Icon or, open AccuMark Explorer.

1. From the Order form select File Open and select TESTMARKER.
2. Press the green arrow key or select File - PROCESS.
3. The message Processing order: TESTMARKER should now display on the screen. When
the order has finished processing, the message Processed Successfully should display.

RETRIEVING A MARKER
From the LaunchPad menu select the Marker Creation, Editors page and
click on the Marker Making Icon or, open AccuMark Explorer.

1. From the File Menu select Open.

2. Two marker names will be displayed:
TESTMARKER an unmade marker (created by ORDER A MARKER above)
LADIES-BLOUSE a made marker
3. To select a marker from the list, highlight the marker name using the mouse, and select
Open.

SELECTING AND SLIDING PIECES IN MARKER MAKING
Move the mouse cursor over the numbers below the pieces in the icon menu. The piece count
will highlight and the associated piece name and size will display in the status bar.
1. Select using the left mouse button.
2. When a piece is selected, the perimeter will become dotted and the piece will attach to the
mouse cursor.
3. To slide the piece into the marker, press and hold the left mouse button and draw a vector in
the direction desired. Release the mouse button.
4. The piece will move in the direction of the slide vector. If the piece fits into the area where it
was slid, it will place.

PLOTTING A MARKER
Use the Hardware Configuration icon to configure a plotter. Then from the LaunchPad menu
select the Plotting and Cutting page or, open AccuMark Explorer.

1. From the LaunchPad options select the MARKER PLOT icon.

2. Select the location as Data70. In the marker name field select LADIES-BLOUSE.
3. From AccuMark Explorer, right-click on the marker LADIES-BLOUSE and select Send To
Plotter.
4. Press the green arrow or select PROCESS ALL from the File drop down menu.
Note: Auto Process is turned off by default enabling the plot form to display. If the plot form
does not appear, check the Plot Options.
5. If the plotter is online and properly configured it will begin plotting.

minimum of CW and CCW as its tilt limit value and uses it for both CW and CCW.
Engine 2 limits tilt internally to 22 degrees.

9256 In previous versions narrow cutouts used to be converted into slit lines Now upon
proper selection of Line Thinness and Thin Line Compensation settings narrow

10406 In previous versions there was an issue when a minimized AccuScan window was
closed by selecting Closed from the Right Mouse Button Menu. The next time

misunderstood by AccuScan. Closed cut outs and/or internal lines crossing each
other were converted into wrong shapes. These issues have been corrected. Now

non-existing scanner, if there is an invalid scanner driver, or if there is no scanner

not stored in standard dxf file directly, they are generated by approximation
algorithm and they depend on the import option “Curve Approximation Tolerace”.
So in order to get pretty smooth line like in AutoCad, have to change the default
value, make it smaller.

11275 Corrected the problem for importing models and markers to SQL database and
subfolder by DCU.Prior to this,the entry couldn't be saved in RDBMS, now the
model and marker information will be pushed to RDBMS.
