Dear Parents and Guardians, October 16, 2022

Attached to this letter is a copy of an infographic that has been given to your students

about being a “Super Digital Citizen.” The infographic is specifically about the power of words

online and that “Words Can Hurt”. As kids grow, they will learn more about communicating

online, but some of what they see could make them sad, angry, or even fearful. Therefore,

understanding the knowledge of how to navigate through an online world will help students stay

away from trouble. It is an important topic for first graders to know and it will help them build

empathy for others, even if they are not face-to-face with the person. They should remember the

STOP acronym when wanting to chat with people online. This acronym will keep students safe

and cautious, so they can think through their actions and the actions of others. With the uprising

use of technology in the classroom, students knowing the dos and don’ts will help them stand up

to cyberbullying. We will be using tablets, computers, iPhones, and iPads to complete

educational collaborative activities in class. As educators and parents, we want to ensure our

students are using technology responsibly. As a digital citizen, students are expected to be kind

to others, stand up for their classmates, and report any misuse of the technology to a trusted

teacher and/or adult. Within the infographic are tips that encourage your involvement as well.

Teachers and parents/guardians work as a team to keep our students safe and educated!

Se adjunta a esta carta una copia de una infografía que se les ha dado a sus estudiantes sobre ser

un "Ciudadano Súper Digital". La infografía trata específicamente sobre el poder de las palabras

en línea y que "Las palabras pueden doler". A medida que los niños crecen, aprenderán más

sobre cómo comunicarse en línea, pero algo de lo que ven podría ponerlos tristes, enojados o

incluso temerosos. Por lo tanto, comprender el conocimiento de cómo navegar a través de un

mundo en línea ayudará a los estudiantes a mantenerse alejados de los problemas. Es un tema

importante para que los estudiantes de primer grado lo sepan y les ayudará a desarrollar empatía

por los demás, incluso si no están cara a cara con la persona. Deben recordar el acrónimo STOP

cuando quieran chatear con personas en línea. Este acrónimo mantendrá a los estudiantes seguros

y cautelosos, para que puedan pensar en sus acciones y las acciones de los demás. Con el uso

increciente de la tecnología en el aula, los estudiantes que saben lo que se debe y no se debe

hacer les ayudará a hacer frente al acoso cibernético. Usaremos tabletas, computadoras, iPhones

y iPads para completar actividades educativas colaborativas en clase. Como educadores y padres,

queremos asegurarnos de que nuestros estudiantes utilicen la tecnología de manera responsable.

Como ciudadano digital, se espera que los estudiantes sean amables con los demás, defiendan a

sus compañeros de clase e informen cualquier uso indebido de la tecnología a un maestro y / o

adulto de confianza. Dentro de la infografía hay consejos que fomentan su participación también.
