You will need


1 ¼ screws (hardened steel if using oak or the heads will break off)
1 ¼” brad or nails for air nailer/ or finish nails and a hammer
2 hinge sets from Rockler full back to back #29017
1 set of bed rail brackets per bunk from Rockler # 10025
2 sets rail fasteners ( I’m using barrel bolts that lock)
3 bed slat brackets per bunk suggest Rockler 32077 but there are many styles available
5 drawer glides (1 at 14” and 9 pieces at 22 or 24” )
drawer pulls (10) (optional - I used routed finger pulls)
dowel pins (about 200) (I used 3/8 with a doweling jig from Rockler 35242 for $10)
fine thread pocket screws (optional – only if you are using a pocket screw jig)
finish buttons for recessed screws

Drawer materials:
Purchase precut drawers or make your own out of ½” birch/MDF/etc 1 4x8 sheet and one 2x4 sheet
One ¼” masonite 4x8’ for the bottoms. If you are using a dovetail jig, use the lumber thickness required
by your jig.

Tools needed: drill and bits


dowel jig (Rockler part 35242 for $10.00…recommended is 3/8 doweling bit with stop
collar)
chop saw or circular saw
sander
router with round-over bits
having 5’ bar or pipe clamps is helpful for tight joints
pocket hole jig (optional… but very useful)

Bed supports are made of three sandwiched panels consisting of 4 pieces of ¾ x 2 ½ stock with ¾ plywood
panels between for strength with ¾ x 2 ¼ face fronts on the “posts” for esthetics.
Each panel will be referred to as ABC (left of stairs or left end of unit) , DEF (footboard or right of stairs, or
EFG (headboard or right end of bunk support)

I used oak as my wood of choice, make your choice based upon your preference, cost and finish desired. I used
a brushed lacquer finish to easily remove scratches little children will certainly create.
