Critical Thinking Question

1. Pose the question.

- How far should the LGBT Community fight for their rights quoting "transgender woman
are also woman" in terms of pageantry. Should they be allowed to join pageants
alongside with biologically-born women and how can we decide which side should be
given greater weight when deciding whether or not to allow trans women to participate
in beauty pageants without discounting other people's viewpoints?

2. Provide the context. What triggers you to ask the question?

I have been a pageant enthusiast ever since and have friends from the LGBT
Community. Pageantry has been one of the common interests of all women– biological
and at heart. Empowered individuals from different delegations congregate on one
stage to demonstrate their influence in advancing their causes and exhibiting what
women are capable of. Transgender women have been very supportive of pagentries
and have been inclusive to its idea ever since. Recently in 2018, Angela Ponce, a
transgender woman from Spain competed for one of the most prestigious pageants
internationally, Miss Universe. This has prompted a discussion about whether
transgender women should be permitted to participate in pageants alongside
cisgender women. Additionally, this is where the fundamental criteria and standards for
defining what constitutes a woman emerge. As this contentious issue continues to
gain traction, should we allow the transgender woman to join pageants alongside with
cisgender woman?

Even now, LGBT individuals continue to battle tenaciously for their rights.
They keep spreading awareness and advocating for others to have the right to do so.
Some people, though, assert that they are looking for attention rather than
understanding. Later, people started expressing their thoughts on the label
"transgender lady." The question of whether or not trans women should be allowed to
compete in beauty pageants now touches on the ideals of what a woman ought to be.
It is normal for people to have varied perspectives about it, and these individualized
viewpoints are far more difficult to evaluate. With all of these various opinions from
different people, how do we determine which side should be given more weight when
choosing whether or not to allow trans women to compete in beauty pageants without
dismissing other people's points of view?
