FIGHT SONG BY: RACHEL PLATTEN

Sociological Criticism

Since the entire music video is about a lady who isn't willing to give up, I think the Ralph Waldo
Emerson quotation can be related to the song I'm currently listening to. This song was inspired
on Rachel Platten's actual experience, which I found so amazing because it shows how she is
finally regaining control of her life and putting up a fight. She claims that she has a fire in her
bones and that she will be strong. Once you identify this battle within yourself, you must feed it
and keep it going until you have revealed your true self to the world. And I don’t really care if
nobody else believes, ‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me,” are two highly key quotes from
the video. These are significant because it is quite vital to solely worry about how much you want
something and how much you believe in yourself. If you still have a lot of fight left in you, like
Rachel Platten did, then you are capable of so much in life and you need to show the world that
you can overcome obstacles and be stronger than the negativity all around you. This relates to
my position statement because, in order to find this fight within yourself, no matter what your goal
may be, you need to be yourself. Otherwise, your purpose for fighting or even your goal may not
be what you want, but rather what you think someone else may want you to want. Not only do the
lyrics in this music video resonate with me, but also the way the clips are presented evokes strong
feelings in the audience and inspires them to fight for what they believe in.

This song is very motivating to me because it teaches me to always be strong, even when things
are difficult. You have to be strong because you still have a lot of fight left in you and a lot to
contribute to this unfair world. And this song has a lot of meaning for me since it helps me
understand what life is all about. It also taught me how to deal with injustice in the world, which is
to fight back, never give up in the face of difficulties, and don’t be afraid to be yourself because
you won’t change no matter what. I like to listen to this song to remind myself that not every
moment of someone’s life is going to be perfect, there are bumps and potholes in the road, but it
also serves as a reminder that there is a lot of gold at the end of the rainbow because I suffer
from depression, anxiety, family issues, and the whole nine yards. And you might discover it if
you search long and hard enough. “Like a small boat on the ocean,” anyone can have an impact
on the world. The chorus is where you show the world how tough you are or sing your “fight song.
“This song is mostly about overcoming obstacles in life. There is hope for a better tomorrow even
though these unnamed issues have severely harmed you to the point that you feel there is no
turning back. This song teaches us that it is possible to overcome our issues. We come to
understand that things do get better and that we are more than capable of overcoming any
obstacle. In the end, you are stronger than you realize, and you must always get back up even if
no one else is there to help. And Rachel Platten added, “I was at a particularly low point when I
wrote ‘Fight Song. I didn’t intend to write [“Fight Song,” you know, for the world to hear to be
honest. I needed a reminder to keep fighting, to remember that I still believed in myself, and that
I still had fight in me. It is what I needed, therefore I wrote it. And I wrote it because I needed both
the hope and the reminder. Perhaps there was a small part of me that thought it was still possible
for this to happen. The fact that it did is absurd.
