Announcement and Call for Applications

NurseLEAD Course
October 21 – December 2, 2022

Background
The University of the Philippines Manila College of Nursing is organizing the NurseLEAD course. This
postgraduate course (with CPD units) responds to the increasing demand for public health nurses with
advanced skills who are able to lead the implementation of health care services under the universal health
care framework. This course assumes the expanded roles of nurses in primary health care towards advanced
practice nursing. It is funded by the Johnson&Johnson Foundation through its Global Community Impact and
implemented through Give2Asia Foundation, UP Foundation, Inc, and UPCN Foundation, Inc.

Course Description
NurseLEAD is an online course on advanced practice in public health nursing that aims to strengthen nurse
competencies in leading and managing primary care services and population-based programs, carrying out
supervisory and leadership responsibilities, and fostering interprofessional education and collaborative
practice.

Course Methodology
The course is divided into two parts. The first part is online with a combination of asynchronous and
synchronous sessions where participants will be required to read/view learning resources, engage in
discussions, and upload assignments in a learning management system. The planned face-to-face sessions
which will be scheduled next year (March 2023) will include skills laboratory and field visits to give participants
the opportunities to witness best practices in model communities.

Course Duration
In the online component, participants will need to engage in a four-hour study session (asynchronous) for 28
days spread in six weeks (October 21 – December 2, 2022). The synchronous sessions will be for the opening
and closing, and consultations with resource persons at the end of each module.

Target Participants
The course will take in up to 55 participants. Participants should be nurses who have two years of experience
as a leader or supervisor, manager, coordinator in public health nursing. A gender balance and a good regional
mix are aimed at, given that qualifications and other criteria are fulfilled.

Funding
The costs of the online course will be free. However, for the planned face-to-face session next year,
participants are expected to shoulder the costs of transportation to Clark. Accommodation in Clark will be
shouldered by the organizers.
