By

Freddie Johnson
EXT: river, Midday

BETTY is sat down a bench with JOHN next to her, she tears off some bread to feed the
ducks.

John
May I feed the ducks too?

Betty looks at John likes she’s seen a ghost

Betty
Yeah, yeah of course

Betty hands some bread slices to John, John looks at the bread and takes it

John
Thank you

He starts feeding the ducks

John
So how far along are you

Bettys head slowly turns as looks at him with shock and sadness.

Betty
UUUmmmm, (stroking her belly, and looking down) 22 weeks (slowly looks back at John)

John
Oh wow, not long now

Betty
No, no (starting to cry)

John
You must be excited

Betty
I am, it’s just really hard with the baby coming and my dad. (Wiping her tears)

John hands Betty a tissue

John
Here

Betty
Thanks
John
So, what’s wrong with your dad?
Betty
He’s got dementia (finding it hard to talk, uses the tissue to wipe her face) , and I don’t know if he
will ever see my baby boy or not.

John
You shouldn’t think like that, you should aways look at the bright side. I’m sure that your dad
will see your baby boy.

Betty
Yeah, maybe your right

Betty looks at watch and then looks at John, she uses the tissue to wipe her tears away. She
puts the rest of the bread in her bag.

Betty
Well, (sighs) I think it’s time we went home now.

John is looking confused

Betty
Come on dad lets go.

John looks confused but then realises and then takes her hand and walks off.
