tétel (a tanulás világa)

We need to learn all over our lifetime. A baby learns his or her mother language in 3
years, whereas a student learns a foreign language for 10-12 years. The Hungarian
educational system has different levels. Firstly, little children can go to the crèche till the
age of 3 so parents can go back to work. Next is kindergarten, where the child learns how
to be together with other children. When the children are six years old, they go to primary
school. In the first class, they learn reading and writing. They have many other subjects,
for example, history, geography, biology, maths, chemistry, Hungarian language and
literature and foreign language (English and German languages are the most popular).

After primary school, children must choose a secondary school. They can go to a
secondary grammar school or a vocational grammar school. Secondary school is more
complex than primary school. There are a lot of requirements and curriculums. At the end
of the fourth year, the students take the final exam. It takes five subjects: maths, history,
Hungarian language and literature, foreign language and an optional subject. After
secondary school, students can go to university or college to choose what they would like
to learn. Or they can go to work. Speaking languages is not a particular skill nowadays,
especially in English, as it is considered an essential criterion, so you have to talk 1, 2 or
more foreign languages. There are many ways to learn languages. In schools two foreign
languages are compulsory to know, that’s why people start learning languages there.
Another way is going to private teachers or choosing a language school. Some people try
to learn by themselves, reading books, newspapers with the help of a dictionary, watching
films or using a computer program. Those who can afford it go abroad to take a language
course in the target-language country. I like to go to school, because of my friends. I
wouldn’t say I want an online school. I think teachers can’t teach the way they should. We
have a lot of problems with the techniques. My favorite subject was Math. I know it’s
weird, but I don’t like to learn things word by word. If you understand Math, you love it
too. This year I don’t have Math, so my favorite subject is Finance. I love it because it’s
easy to understand for me and I love my teacher too. I was not too fond of this subject, but
his explanations are so clear, and his classes are so interesting. He is not only a good
teacher but a wonderful person, too. In my opinion, it’s more worthwhile to study further
abroad. I think it’s helpful because you can practice the language, get to know how people
live in that country, and what the educational system is like there. I think you have more
options too. When you have completed your studies, and you want to go to work.
