Introduction: Methodist Healthcare began as Methodist Hospital, a single, five-


story acute care facility Chartered in 1955 and first opened its door in 1963.
Methodist Healthcare was formed in 1995 by Methodist Hospital’s Board of trustees.

Vision and Mission: The mission of Methodist Healthcare is “Serving Humanity to


Honor God by providing exceptional and cost-effective healthcare accessible to all.
Furthermore, the vision of the Methodist is to be a world-class healthcare provider,
continually raising the standards of performance excellence and advancing the
health status of the community. They acknowledge the values of integrity,
compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence.

Introduction: Houston Methodist is also committed to providing a work


environment that allows all healthcare team members to be their best in all aspects
of their lives. In 2017, Houston Methodist formed the Physician and Provider
Engagement and Resiliency Task Force (PERT) to coordinate system efforts to
promote provider resiliency, implement initiatives and monitor trends. In 2019 the
program was staffed to expand these efforts systemwide.

Harris Health System is a fully integrated healthcare system that cares for all
residents of Harris County, Texas. We are the first accredited healthcare institution
in Harris County to be designated by the National Committee for Quality Assurance
as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. We are one of the largest systems in the
country to achieve quality standards. Our system includes community health
centers, same-day clinics, three multi-specialty clinic locations, a dental center
and dialysis center, mobile health units, and two full-service hospitals. 
Mission: Harris Health is a community-focused academic healthcare system
dedicated to improving the health of those in need in Harris County through quality
care delivery, coordination of care, and education.
Vision: Harris Health will become the premier public, the academic healthcare
system in the nation.

Similarities:
 All of the hospitals mentioned above are the same in providing Primary
healthcare, specialty care, and acute care by dealing with emergencies.
 Medical groups of physicians bring a system of coordination and collaboration
to provide quality care.
 A referral system in case a patient needs consultation from other specialties.
 Individual practices by the physicians who have the privilege to admit
patients to the hospital are the same.
 All take Private medical insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid.
 All have surgical units where minor and major surgeries are performed.
 All have multiple locations in and around Houston.
 They are all renowned and recognized high-performance hospitals.
 They all provide different types of services, specialties, and subspecialties.
 They all have a fully integrated electronic medical system, labs, and state-of-
the-art investigation modalities.

Differences:
 Harris Health system, provide primary care and a wide range of specialty
care, a world-renowned trauma center.
 Harris Health System is unique because they have an eligibility system,
which is determined based on the Federal Poverty Level, once a qualified
patient is provided healthcare services with a low co-pay.
 Harris Health System has two public hospitals, Ben Taub and Lindon B
Johnson, where all services are provided to the uninsured or underinsured.
 Harris Health System includes community health centers and same-day
clinics.
 Methodist Hospital is a faith-based not for profit Hospital.

Which one would I like to work on:


 I would like to work at Methodist Hospital because it is a faith-based hospital,
which is not for profit.
 Their goal is to serving humanity.
 My second choice is Harris Health System, because they serve the
community, uninsured and underinsured.

Why it is important to understand the hospital’s mission, vision, and


values:
 I would like to see how patients will have cared for.
 Hospital is not just a profit-making organization; reading the vision and
missions explains what they stand for.
 Their beliefs and culture, are essential to know because they will affect
patient care, employees, and the community.
