Lab Title: Measurements using Vernier Scale
Date: 30-09-22
Name: Mehwish
Semester & Section: 1st semester BS (IT)-1A

Vernier Caliper
Procedure:
 Take vernier caliper, first of all determine zero error.
 Open the jaws and place the material between the jaws.
 Note the reading just to the left of zero line of vernier scale to find main scale
reading.
 To take the vernier scale reading, note the vernier scale division that concides
with any main scale division.
 Multiply this number with the least count of vernier caliper and then add this to
main scale reading.

Formula:
Actual length=(main scale reading +vernier scale reading*least count)

Results:
Measurement of marker=20.9
Measurement of pointer cap=15.65
Measurement of pen=9.35

Theoretical Results:
Material Main scale Vernier Vernier scale Actual
reading scale reading*least length
reading count
Marker 20 18 18*0.05=0.9 20.9
Pointer cap 15 13 13*0.05=0.65 15.65
Pen 9 7 7*0.05=0.35 9.35

Conclusion:
Vernier caliper gives precise and accurate measurements than micrometer caliper.
