Unit-5: Internet:

 Internet is a global computer network providing a variety of information and

communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized

communication protocols.

 It is the large system of connected computers around the world that allows people to

share the information.

 Internet is the large system of connected computers around the world that allows

 It is a network of networks that consists of Private, Public, Academic, Business and

Government networks of local to global scope, linked by broad array of electronic,

wireless, and optical networking technologies.

 The internet carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the

inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web

(WWW), electronic, mail, telephony and file sharing.

 Internet gives birth to new services such as:

 E-mail,

 Internet,

 Telephony,

 Internet television,

 Online music,

 Digital Newspapers, and

 Video streaming websites.

 The Internet has enabled and accelerated new forms of personal interactions through

Instant messaging (Whatsapp, Messenger, Facebook, Instagram), Internet forums


(Message board, is an online discussion site where people can hold conversation in

the form of posted messages), and Social networking.

 There are two principle name spaces in the Internet. They are mainly:

 IP Address (Internet Protocol Address) space, and

 DNS (The Domain name system) space, are directed by a maintainer

organisation.
