Montero (Call Me by Your Name) And now I'm acting hella elite
Lyrics Never want the niggas that's in my league
I caught it bad yesterday I wanna fuck the ones I envy, I envy
You hit me with a call to your place Cocaine and drinking with your friends
Ain't been out in a while anyway You live in the dark, boy, I cannot pretend
Was hoping I could catch you throwing smiles in my I'm not fazed, only here to sin
face
If Eve ain't in your garden, you know that you can
Romantic talking? You don't even have to try
Call me when you want, call me when you need
You're cute enough to fuck with me tonight
Call me in the morning, I'll be on the way
Looking at the table and I see the reason why
Call me when you want, call me when you need
Baby, you living the life, but nigga, you ain't livin' right
Call me out by your name, I'll be on the way like
Cocaine and drinking with your friends
Oh, call me by your name (mmm, mmm, mmm)
You live in the dark, boy, I cannot pretend
Tell me you love me in private
I'm not fazed, only here to sin
Call me by your name (mmm, mmm, mmm)
If Eve ain't in your garden, you know that you can
I do not care if you lying
Call me when you want, call me when you need
Well, I'm just feeling, mm-uh
Call me in the morning, I'll be on the way
I wanna get, mm-uh
Call me when you want, call me when you need
I'm in my, into my, uh
Call me out by your name, I'll be on the way like
I'm mm, mm
Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm
I'm still, mm, mm-mm, ooh
Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm
Ayy, ayy
I wanna sell what you're buying
I wanna feel on yo' ass in Hawaii
I want that jet lag from fucking and flying
Shoot a child in your mouth while I'm riding
Oh, oh, oh, why me?
A sign of the times every time that I speak
A dime and a nine, it was mine every week
What a time, an incline, God was shining on me
Now I can't leave
CRITIQUE/REACTION:
Montero, a song by Lil Nas X, is probably one of the most controversial music videos of 2021. People's opinions
about the song are divided. Lil Nas X released this song to announce to the whole world that she is indeed part of the
LGBT community. A lot of people supported her decision, while homophobic people were unhappy about this. The other
controversy about this song was that the music video was not kid-friendly and was anti-Christian.
Parents should know by now that most music nowadays is not kid-friendly. I do think it's admirable that she
decides to break out of her shell and face every criticism. The line "Call me out by your name" is intriguing and clever
because her real name is Montero. The video heavily alludes to the Garden of Eden, where she's talking to herself, the
serpent. It showcases the internal battle of queerness between herself. The lyrics may be r-18, but it's vibey and shows
relevance to the message she wants to convey. Overall, the song is fun to listen to because of how to vibe the beats are.
The storytelling was well crafted. The directing of the music video was an incredible art.
