2. Form 2F is planning to hold a stall in St. Joseph’s College Open Day 2013. They
have decided to sell traditional Hong Kong drinks: a mixture of tea and coffee.
John, the class monitor, bought tea packs and coffee packs in a supermarket at an
average price of $10/L and $8/L respectively. They prepared a total of 10L drinks
and sells it in 500mL bottles, each cost $9. After they sold all the drinks, they
made a profit of 100%. (7)
Let x be the number of litres of tea and y be the number of litres of coffee in the
mixture respectively,
(a) Find the total income in selling all the drinks.
(b) Express, in terms of x and y, the cost in buying tea and coffee for the mixture.
