2 Neutralisation
1.The process in which an acid reacts with an alkali to produces salt and
water only.
2.The word equation:Acid+alkali salt +water
Other equation:1 Hydrochloric acid+sodium hydroxide sodium
chloride +water
2 Sulphuric acid + calcium hydroxide calcium
sulphate+water
3 Nitric acid + calcium hydroxide calcium
nitrate+water
The application of the neutralisation in daily life
1.A wasp sting which is alkali can be neutralised by vinegar which is acid.A bee
sting which is acid can be neutralised by baking soda which is alkali.
2.Antacid medicine contains weak alkali which is used to neutralise the
hydrochloric acid in our stomach to relieve gastric pain.
3.The toothpaste contains an alkaline substance that is sodium hydroxide
neutralises the acid produced by the bacteria in our mouth to prevent tooth
decay.

Electrostatic charges
What is an atom?
1. It is neutral and has no change because the number of protons and
electrons are the same.
2. An atom consists three type of particles:Proton-positive charge
Electron-negative charge
Neutron-neutral
3. Protons and neutrons are situated in the nucleus of the atom.
4. Electrons move around the nucleus in orbits.
Properties of Electrostatic charges
1) Stationary electric charges
2) Produced by friction
3) The atom that lost its electrons has more protons left, giving it a
positive charge.
4) The atom that has gained electrons has more electrons compared to
protons,giving it a negative charge.

Law of charges:
Like charges repel, while unlike charge attract
Can only be formed on insulators since they don’t allow electric
charges to flow or move.
