Exploring the cosmos with exoplanets
What is Project
Beyond?
This project highlighted a series of activities and events that showcased exoplanets, specifically
their meaning, history, importance, and discovery. The team participated in Rizal Technological
University Week 2022 through an in-line booth and introduced exoplanets to various students,
and distributed pamphlets and stickers. Students from Santos E. Conag National High School
from Masbate, Bicol were also reached out wherein the pamphlets were also distributed and
their contents were discussed. Additionally, a Free Telescope Viewing was conducted in 3
different neighborhoods: Loreto St. Sampaloc, Manila City; Purok 4 Barangay. Sta. Ana. Taytay,
Rizal; and Barangay. Marikina Heights, Marikina City. During the activity, pamphlets and stickers
were also distributed to the residents and the team was able to have small talk with some
young adults and kids, sharing astronomy and exoplanets with them. Also, a series of social
media posts and activities that featured 20 exoplanetary systems and Exoplanet-inspired
games were posted on the RTU-DESS Official Facebook Page. Lastly, a webinar that highlights
extraterrestrial life A.K.A “Aliens” was conducted via Zoom Conference call and was live
streamed on the RTU-CARD Facebook page.

Overall, the project is aimed to address the general public’s gap in their knowledge about
exoplanets. Thus, the project was directed to achieve the following objectives:
1. To know the general public’s perspective and understanding of exoplanets
2. To introduce exoplanets to the general public
3. To generate materials and organize activities and events that will help the general public
understand and appreciate astronomy and exoplanets

Activities Under the

Project BEYOND Overview
1. Public Engagement: RTU Week Booth and School Outreach
Sharing awareness and knowledge about Astronomy specifically about Exoplanets as
the team participated in Rizal Technological University Week and conducted outreach
to students from Visayas. Flyers about exoworlds were also provided.
2. Neighborhood Free Telescope Viewing
Various student volunteers from the RTU Department of Earth and Space Sciences are
encouraged to participate in the campaign to conduct Neighborhood Free Telescope
Viewing.
3. Exoplanet of the Day
It is a non-interactive social media posting activity that intends to give awareness to
the public about planets outside our solar system.
4. Take Home Astronomy: Exo-Exo
It intends to provide a series of interesting activities and astronomy-related materials
for the public. The interactive exercises can impart knowledge and provide
entertainment for the participants.
5. AstroChats: The Life in the Universe
This event continues RTU-DESS’s “Astrochats” webinar that highlights extraterrestrial
life.
