HOW DO BIOLOGISTS
STUDY LIFE AND
EXPLORE ITS
COMPLEXITIES?

Laboratory studies with animals, plants,

microbes, or biomolecules are
frequently carried out by biologists. A
tiny portion of biological research does,
however, take place outside of the lab
and may entail natural observation as
opposed to experimental.
HOW DID LIFE CAME
ABOUT ON EARTH?

Simple organic molecules started to develop

under the hydrogen shield as the situation
cooled. Some scientists believe that these
molecules eventually came together to
produce RNA, a chemical player long seen
as crucial for the emergence of life. So,
virtually from the moment our planet was
formed, the conditions for life to evolve
were already in place.
WHAT
CHARACTERISTICS DO
ALL LIVING THINGS
SHARE?

The ability to reproduce, grow and

develop, use energy, maintain
homeostasis, react to their
environment, and be adaptable are all
characteristics shared by all living
creatures. All of these qualities will be
present in living creatures.
