Pros of using game in Training activities

Encourages mistakes and risk-taking:

 one of the major benefit of using game in training is that it encourages trainnes to

make mistakes and take risk because employees have negative repercussions which

discourage them to participate in training session.

 Sometimes trainees hesitate to share answers or any experiences even if they already

know this.

 Game in training activities provide an environment that allows trainees to make

mistakes or openly share their opinion or experience.

 In training session, they are taught various kind of interpersonal skills to avoid the

same mistake at the job as well as personal life (Vairagkar, 2021).

Improves trainee’s participations:

 During the training session, it become one of the major obstacles for the trainers to

make the employee engage in the training activities.

 There are various reasons which makes employees feel uncomfortable or shy which

lead lack of participations in the training.

 Games in training activities allows trainees to participate more in the training session

through the game

Minimizes stress and anxiety:

 Games are fun activities which minimizes stress and anxiety. If we look at the recent

report shows that 49% employees are facing stress and anxiety since the start of

COVID-19 and 44% managers observe declined employee morale.


 During the training session, games helps trainees to releases endorphins and deal with

mental health issues. At least, employees are more likely to pay attention and

participate in the training session.

Enhances immersion and interactivity:

 Training sessions are long which required active listening and memorizing as much

information as possible without any nod off during the session.

 On the other hand, training games allow trainees to be more interactive and learner-

centred. In this way, they participate to achieve the outcomes from the training

session.

Reinforces favourable performance behaviours:

 In a training session, Employees are coming from various background therefore, the

trainer cannot force an employees to change their work practices.

 However, games in training allows trainer to give them a gentle nudge and encourage

them to participate and disclose their own areas for improvement.


Cons of using game in Training Activities

Possibility to create false set of Rewards:

 The fact that gamification rewards winning above other goals is one of its main

issues.

 Trainer may don't want employees who can ace a test but don't really understand what

they've been taught when it comes to training and corporate learning. The goal is to

create intelligent programmes to overcome this.

Possibility to get ineffective outcome:

 During the training session, trainer needs to select the right game for the participates

but there is a possibility to get ineffective outcome if the trainees profile are not

similar.

 Some trainees may older than others by age or experiences, games may not be

suitable for everyone.

Game is not the only methods:

 Games in training should not be mandatory but an option for them because

Employees have different learning style with each other due to this, games may not

work for everyone in the training session.

 Trainees may learn in different ways such as storytelling, memorization or it can be

regular practice..

Chances of occur accident

 During the game, there are chances of occurring accident due to wrong selection of

games based on the participant’s profile.

Beneficial games for the Trainees

Communication game: In many occasions, employees experience miscommunication with

others in an organization. Some member of a team may misunderstand or failed to explain the

correct information to the another employees. Therefore, various conflicts may rise in the

organization which may affect the workflow. Communication game is one of the best way to

demonstrate how miscommunication occur in an organization.

In the game, number of employees will line up and pass or show an acting with another

employees then the employee is required to pass to another. At the end, everyone will see

how the first act was changing with other employees which may occur in an organization. It’s

a great way to learn the importance of communication effectively in an organization.

Moreover, this game is applicable for all types of employees in an organization.

Stop-Walk: Employees have various situation whereby they do not give full concentration of

their team leader or co-worker. It leads to mismanage or effect on the work flow as they

failed to use the correct instruction. Employees can get benefits from this type of game to

practice improve the concentration level between each other.

In the game, trainer give simple commands such as “walk” so the trainer will start walking.

When the trainer command “stop” then they will stop walking. This this way the trainer will

keep adding new command and exchange the commands with others which makes difficult

for the trainees to remember each command and give full concentration on the trainer’s

command.
Not beneficial game for the Trainees

Spaghetti Tower: Building spaghetti tower used for team work but it requires active mind

and body fitness. Such games are not beneficial for trainees who does not meet with this

requirement. Trainees have different way of learning new things depending on the generation.

Some games may get good outcome for millennials but not for older generation (Tryczyński,

2020). Training design plays an important part to identify which game can be played during

the session based on the participant’s profile.

Magic Carpet: It is an activity that requires trainees to stand in a small size carpet. It makes

a difficult situation for the trainees to stand 3-5 participants in single carpet. During the

training session, trainees may feel uncomfortable to stand with each other as it requires to

allow other participants to enter into the personal space. Trainees may have religious or

personal choice to not allow others to enter in their personal space. Therefore, this game may

not well fit for everyone in the participants.
