TICKETING PROCEDURES -Via Rail Canada

VIA Rail Canada was established as a crown corporation on April 1, 1978, combining the
passenger services of both Canadian National Railways and Canadian Pacific Railways.
Passenger services from both CN and CP Railways joined the VIA corporation, so that today
VIA provides all the passenger rail services previously operated by CN and CP. VIA contracts
with CN and CP to operate passenger lines over the railways beds owned by those companies.
VIA Rail Canada employs a computerized procedure for reserving rail travel. This system is
aptly designated "RESERVIA". Many travel companies including tour wholesalers, rail
companies and travel agencies, are now able to make direct bookings and print automated
tickets through their GDS.

VIA has prepared the following guidelines in conjunction with the BSP/IATA ticketing policy.

If the trip is to be made on a VIA train, the ticket is to be made out in accordance with the
following guidelines:

1. One ticket may be issued to cover a complete trip by two or more persons, if they
travel:
o on the same date
o on the same train, in the same car
o sharing the same unit of accommodation if sleeping car passengers

Any other travel situation will require more than one ticket.

2. A record locator or booking number is created when rail reservations are booked
and confirmed on the GDS. By entering this number on the computer system, the
full details of the reservation are displayed.

3. Control numbers will be assigned by Via Rail for each passenger at the time of
ticket issuance.

4. Tickets must be issued before expiration of the option date. Failure to do so

results in the reservations being automatically cancelled.

5. Canadian ticket agents have permission to issue Amtrak tickets on Via Rail
ticket stock.
