MID TERM TEST (UTS)

ENGLISH FOR HOTEL

In subject (judul) you have to write :

Example : 0045/6C/Ni Made Nurmala/UTS English for Hotel.

PART A
What do you say politely (formal expressions) :
1. When you want the guests to fill in the registration form in the
reception.
“Would you fill the registration form before check in, ma’am?
2. If you ask for the guest to pay deposit 25 % from the total amount of
booking confirmation !
“Alright ma’am, the total amount is Rp. 1.000.000 excluded the 25% of
the deposit. The total is Rp. 1.250.000”
3. If you want to say that the room facing the beach is fully booked
and you try to offer the room facing the garden view by giving
special incentive.
“I really do apologize to you, ma’am, because the room that facing the
beach is fully booked. I recommend you to take the room that facing the
garden with free pool party ticket for 2 people. Do you want to take it,
ma’am?”
4. If you want to suggest the guests to join gala buffet BBQ party on
Saturday night held in the restaurant biside the pool !
“We are going to have a buffet BBQ party on Saturday night that held in
the restaurant beside the pool, are you interested to join the party,
ma’am?”
5. If you want to ask ( in a BBQ dinner party) about how the beef steak
should be done ( rare, madium rare or welldone).
“Excuse me, ma’am, how do you want your steak to be done? Do you
want rare, medium rare, or well-done?”
6. If you want to tell the guests to wait for a while because the room is
still being cleaned rigt now by the room boy.
“Our housekeepers are still cleaning the room right now, you may wait on
the sofa at the lobby and we will bring drinks for you while waiting.”
7. If you want to ask the guests what time they need morning call.
“Excuse me, ma’am, may I know what time do you need a morning call?”

PART B
Supose (umpama saja) that you were a profesional hotel worker.
There are 10 skills that a hotel worker should aquire /master.

Write down your own naration in your own words as if you were a
hotel worker. Tell what you should do related to the 10 skills listed
below (by giving example if needed)!
Use pronoun “ I “ ....

1.Teamwork: I have to work with my Front of House staff to make sure


that the customer is satisfied. At the kitchen or product, my team must be
working together to make sure that the food is well prepared.
2. Multi-tasking: I need to make sure that the customer is satisfied and I
must be able to multi-task in order to deal with so many jobs in one day.
3. Flexibility: as a hospitality staff, I need to work in long and difficult
shifts because I may require to work during the holiday and must be having
flexible time to make sure that I can work when I needed in a busy period.
4. Attention to Detail: in hospitality, I need to work properly because
everything is judged by the customers, therefore everything is need to be in
the highest standard, I also need to pay attention to detail of the job I work
on.
5. Industry Awareness: working in hospitality industry will increase my
knowledge about standards and procedures from colleagues and learning by
doing.
6. Time Management: time management is an important thing. Timely
manner is needed in order the restaurant or hotel can run smoothly. For
example: when the customers are not willing to wait for their reservation, I
must guarantee that I will make the hotel or restaurant has a bad review.
7. Communication: communication is to make the customers in restaurant
satisfied by knowing the information about the hotel.
8. Interpersonal Skills: this skill is essential in customer service because it
will be practiced every day to interact with people around me.
9. Problem-Solving: in hospitality working industry, I need to deal with
multiple questions and problems that the customers gave. I need to think
quickly and deal with the issue.
10. Hazard Awareness: this is about health and safety regulations that
should be taught to and followed by everyone in a hospitality industry
because the knowledge of hazards is important.

was swimming in the hotel pool

tense)
A : Mr. Jack is having breakfast with with his wife in the restaurant.

continuous tense )
A : Mr. And Mrs Lucia have been staying in the hotel for two days.

5. Q : what time is the breakfast usually served? (Simple present tense)


A : The breakfast is usually served from 7 – 10 am.
6. Q : where is the gala bbq dinner is going to be held ? (Simple future
tense )
A : Gala BBQ dinner is going to be held near the pool restaurant.
