Academic language enables students to become experts in the fields of science,

technology, engineering, and mathematics to learn more effectively in schools and

academic programs. The academic language contains specialized terminology,
traditional text formats within a subject such as essays and lab reports, and other
language-related classroom activities such as expressing disagreement, addressing a
problem, or seeking an explanation. Thus, it is essential to the science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics strand for several reasons.
Academic text is useful in several ways for stem students. Firstly, academic language
will help STEM students improve their problem-solving skills, argumentation, critical
thinking, and intellectual curiosity. It will also improve their essays by providing them a
clear structure through essay writing. Studies show that pupils who are fluent in the
academic languages associated with the subjects that a teacher teaches would benefit
greatly from reading and listening instruction. In addition, Students who can
communicate well in academic language are also capable of developing stronger
reading comprehension, understand relationships, and use reasoning when making
decisions. Writing in academic English enables students in STEM fields to create topic
sentences, make seamless transitions between ideas, and revise their work well.
Moreover, academic language enables you to express yourself creatively in areas like
writing and makes your work stand out from others. Furthermore, the language we use
in our academic strand of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics is
important because poor language usage can impact our credibility, weaken our
arguments, or distract the readers. However, students in STEM fields must be able to
understand the language used in academic texts to study and conduct research
effectively.
Therefore, I conclude that language in academic writing is essential since it has the
ability to make every article more understandable and relatable to everyone who will
read it. Thus, using language properly in academic texts for the Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics strand makes it easier for students to build the ability to
think critically and respond to complicated topics.
