Academic language enables students to become experts in the fields of science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics to learn more effectively in schools and
academic programs. The academic language contains specialized terminology, traditional text formats within a subject such as essays and lab reports, and other language-related classroom activities such as expressing disagreement, addressing a problem, or seeking an explanation. Thus, it is essential to the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics strand for several reasons. Academic text is useful in several ways for stem students. Firstly, academic language will help STEM students improve their problem-solving skills, argumentation, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity. It will also improve their essays by providing them a clear structure through essay writing.
