VI. Rationale:

Pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 7079, known as the Campus Journalism Act of
1991, the Department of Education promotes the development and growth of campus
journalism as a means of strengthening ethical values, encouraging critical and creative
thinking, and developing moral character and personal discipline of the Filipino youth. In
furtherance of this policy, schools shall undertake various programs and projects aimed at
improving the journalistic skills of students concerned and promoting responsible and free
journalism. Thus national, regional, division and district training for school paper advisers is
essential to improve the quality of Campus Journalism in schools.
VII. Objectives:

a. Present Campus Journalism input and raise the level of competence of school paper
advisers on different aspects in campus journalism.
b. Enhance and or develop the journalistic skills of the Campus Journalism advisers in school
paper advising and school paper lay outing.
c. Equip the teacher-advisers with the recent trends in Copyreading, Photojournalism,
Editorial Cartooning, School Paper Lay outing, News, Feature, Sports and Science Writing.
