1. A gang of thieves attacked an old man who was carrying a
goose. The man broke a shop's window while fighting back with his walking stick. When they saw Mr. Peterson they thought that he was a cop and the man and the thieves ran away leaving behind the man's hat and the goose. 2. He noticed that he knows nothing about the blue Carbuncle that was inside the goose. 3. Holmes noticed that he likes to bet. He knew that because he saw the horse racing ticket in Breckinridge's pocket. 4. He got angry because Holmes wasn't the only one who came to ask about the geese sold to Alpha Inn. 5. Holmes saw the horse bet form in his pocket so he knew that Breckinridge likes to bet so he made a bet with him. 6. It was written that John Horner the Plumber has stolen the Blue Carbuncle and he was arrested for theft. It was also written that James Ryder testified against the plumber. 7. Holmes thought that we have to forgive, it was Christmas and that Ryder's family will suffer and he would turn into a worse criminal if he is put in jail. He will give the jewel back to the countess and John Horner will be released as there weren't enough evidence against him. 8. He didn't send Ryder to jail as he refused to let his family suffer and said that we have to find it inside our hearts to forgive. 9. Holmes said this to Watson when Watson was surprised to see that Holmes didn't send Ryder to jail. Holmes thought that there was no point in sending James Ryder to jail if the countess will take her jewel back and Horner will get out of jail.
