Per your request, below are questions regarding the Town of Brookside’s financial report findings that
showed water loss within the Town of Brookside in 2021.

Where does the Town of Brookside get their water from?

 Town of Brookside purchases water from Birmingham Water Works.

How do you track water loss?

 Water loss is tracked by monthly reading of flushers, this unaccounted water loss is
reported to us buy others such as the railroad, contractors, and by a neighboring fire
department .

When were you, the Mayor, first notified about The Town of Brookside losing water?

 We have always had a water loss due to many factors.

What is causing the water loss and where is that lost water going?

 Water loss comes from thefts, leaks, monthly flushing of lines and fire hydrants.

What steps is the Town of Brookside taking to find a solution to prevent future water loss?

 We are constantly repairing leaks, searching for leaks in non visible areas, replacing
older lines as identified as prone to leakage. This is a daily practice.

How soon can we see these solutions in place?

 Solutions are ongoing daily, leaks are repaired as soon as they are reported.

How will automatic water meters help?

 Automatic meters will help in identifying leaks quicker, help prevent thefts, and will help
In reducing errors due to old meters.

Do you have a general idea of where the older parts of the water system is located? What part of town?

 All of our water lines are old and leak prone.

Has The Town of Brookside residents’ water bills been impacted by the loss of water?

 No, residents only pay for water that passes thru their meter, their consumption. Town
of Brookside absorbs the water loss.
