Executive summary

Prakash Textiles is located in Surat, Gujarat. . This factory started its production in 1988. It manufactures grey cloth from the Yarn. The cloths manufactured are Silk, Cotton, Viscouse & nylon. The yarn used for the manufacturing is imported from Japan, Germany & China. Every month around 5-10 tons of yarn is imported from each of these three countries. The total consumption of the yarn is around 25 tons a month and this yarn is converted into the fabric or the cloth, monthly production of the cloth is around 10lakh meters. All the machinery installed in the factory is made in China. 556 power loom machines are installed in plant to convert the raw material (Yarn) into the cloth. It has almost 450 laborers working six days a week and it has two shifts (12 hours each). The company has two plants one for weaving process and other for dyeing process.

The title of my project is Production & Operations Management-Textiles industry. My first part of my project deals with the inventory of the raw materials in the factory, later I was explained about the process involved in manufacturing the cloth. There are many operational activities carried out in the factory. I have studied the facility layout of the manufacturing unit, and also studied the inventory management of the raw materials, semi finish goods & finished goods. Different methods are used for the tracking of Inventory. Different computer programs and monitoring charts are used for keeping the Inventory minimum and maximum levels. Employees have charts after Inventory level and report to management if Inventory level reaches to minimum level so that new order is made. Supply-chain management aims at synchronization of a firms activities/ functions and those of its suppliers to match the flow of materials, service and information with customer demand.

Mission To transform the Company into a modern and dynamic Textile Products manufacturing Company and to provide quality products to customers and explore new markets to promote / expand sales of the Company through Good Governance and foster a sound and dynamic team, to promote employee participation, so as to achieve optimum profitability for The Company for sustainable and equitable growth and prosperity of the Company.
