PROFESSIONAL

RESPONSIBILITY
ENGAGE IN PROFESSIONAL LEARNING, ACT
ETHICALLY, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR STUDENT
LEARNING, AND COLLABORATE WITH OTHERS.

EVIDENCE
I attended a professional development run by
the "Student Six" organization. This organization
focuses on students taking control of their
learning and bringing issues to light that they
believe are problems within their school.

NARRATIVE
There were three students from each high
school in the Waterford school district. They
sat on the stage in the auditorium in front of
the teachers and administrators from each of
the high schools in the Waterford district. They
gave a presentation on issues that they see are
very prevalent in the schools. They mostly
discussed racial issues and other issues with
teachers making their classrooms a
comfortable and safe learning environment.

REFLECTION
This was a very interesting PD. The students were
very validated in their feelings and it was
interesting to get an up close and personal view
of what the students see versus what the staff
sees. One thing I wish that would have been
added to this PD was the ability for teachers and
administrators to ask questions to the students
themselves. I think this would have benefited the
teachers a lot since we could have learned what
the students think may work in these
circumstances. Rather than trying to go in blind
and figure out what to do one our own.
