PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The aim of this project is to design and fabricate a two-story building

and to perform experimental modal analysis on it. Experimental model
analysis is the process of determining the modal parameters such as natural
frequencies, damping factors and mode shapes from a set of frequency
response functions of the structure and it will be done using lumped-
parameter (discrete system) analysis. The building will be approximated as
having two degrees of freedom with all masses located at floor levels. Both
stories of the building would have columns that are assumed to provide
lateral stiffness to the building. Experimental vibration testing would be
done on the structure. The project includes the mathematical modeling of
the vibrating system. The modal parameters would be determined using
MATLAB programming. And then we would use FEA software to compare
natural frequencies and mode shapes.

• POSSIBLE MATERIAL AND PROCESSES:

 Material we will use for the fabrication of the building and its
columns is wood.
 For joining the floors and roofs to the columns we will use steel
nails.
 The process that will be used for the fabrication of the building is
wood working.
