    Q1 A truck driver compartment can be modelled by a system as shown in Figure Q1.

    The
    mass of the compartment, m1 is 500 kg, and the spring stiffness is as shown in Figure Q1.
    Each tyre has a mass, m2 of 10 kg, diameter 1 m, and mass moment of inertia, I about its
    axis. By considering motion of the truck in the longitudinal direction only and tyres roll
    without slipping.

    (a) By using Lagrange’s equation, determine the equation of motion of the system.
    (10 marks)
    (b) Determine the natural frequency of the system and its mode shape.
