3. A 250 W infrared ray lamp (Model 1R-250WRH made by Iwasaki Denki K.K or equivalent) shall be
applied and arranged, with its center taken at the crossing of those lines which have been drawn
longitudinally and laterally at intervals of 180 mm as shown to the right side of Fig. 1.
4. Requirements to be met by the thermostatic tank with infrared ray lamps:
(1) Temperature shall distribute within a range of ±3°C within the test temperature setting reference
plane (Note 1).
(2) The test setup should preferably allow infrared rays to be irradiated uniformly onto a test piece. To
this end, the test setup should desirably have mechanisms to control both infrared ray irradiation
and temperature by regulating both voltage and irradiation distance or the like, with lamp intervals
minimized as far as practicable.
Note 1: As shown in Fig. 2, take half the height at the highest and lowest positions of the test
piece inside the tested plane for the reference height. And the plane which has a height
identical with the reference one shall be called the "test condition setting reference plane
(reference plane)".
(2) Thermocouple components
The positive leg shall be made of an alloy with nickel and chrome as main components while the
negative leg shall be of an alloy with nickel applied as the main component. And they shall have
thermal tolerances of ±25°C over a temperature range of 0°C thru under 1,200°C, or 0.75% on a
temperature really determined.

2.5 Operations

(1) In a thermostatic tank adjusted (Note 12) to the test conditions referred to in 2-4, install a test piece
in its normal service position (Note 10) and heat it for a specified duration of time.
(2) Throughout the process of heating, check the test piece for a possible detrimental deformation,
discoloration, surface stickiness, rupture due to an ordinary operation (Note 11), failure and any
other probable abnormalities in intervals of 24 h or less. If a discoloration lower than Class 4 in the
discoloration/fading gray scale should take place, determine the surface temperature at the related
location (Note 12) when it took place or after heating for a specified duration. Unless the problem
can be corrected on account of the equipment, take the test piece out of the tank and check it for a
possible abnormality within 3 min.
(3) Following the operations referred to in (2) above, leave the test piece at the room temperature for
30 min.
(4) After leaving the test piece as referred to in (3) above, check it for possible abnormality and
determine its residual deformation.

Note 10: This signifies the condition where the test piece is mounted on a test rack or fittings so as to attain
the load conditions as installed on a motor vehicle.
With a weight or weights mounted and/or with a load or loads applied, moreover, the related
weight, dimensions and load conditions shall be agreed upon by and between the parties
concerned.
Note 11: The term, ordinary operation, signifies:
(a) Light hitting by hand, holding, pulling and picking by nail
(b) Lightly kicking by foot, getting on and/or pushing
(c) Leaning your body or sitting
Note 12: A part shall have its surface temperature and its back atmosphere temperature determined as
follows:
(A) Follow the procedure shown in Fig. 3 "Determining a surface temperature". To drill a hole
on the surface film, use a heated needle or equivalent (needle, soldering iron or the like).
Any thermocouple other than those for setting test conditions shall not be attached to the test
piece.

Definition of Standard Light C
Standard light C:
Standard light C is the light which has a spectral distribution as defined in Exhibit 1. It is used to indicate the colors of an
object illuminated with the daytime light. Standard light C, however, shall not be used to indicate the colors of an object,
which will emit fluorescence as excited under ultraviolet radiation.

Remarks: Standard light C is approximated to the daytime light with a quantity of approx. 6,774 K in correlative color temperature.
As compared with this daytime light, however, standard light C shows a small value of correlation in the spectral
distribution at an ultraviolet zone. It tends to be gradually replaced with standard light D43, accordingly.
