Submission on discontinuing eligibility of non-British citizens for government-subsidised housing

to the Housing, Local Government and Transport Policy Commission of Labour's National Policy
Forum

Discontinuing the eligibility of non-British citizens for government-subsidised housing would

demonstrate that Labour views the freedom of movement of persons as the freedom of movement of
workers who are net contributors to the Exchequer. It would have no impact on non-British citizens
living in the UK who can support themselves and no impact on non-British citizens living in social
housing which does not receive government subsidy.

This discontinuation of eligibility of non-British citizens would not apply to key workers, who
provide essential public services, or asylum seekers, who may have no other source of housing.

I would like to submit a proposal to discontinue the eligibility of non-British citizens for
government-subsidised housing, with the exceptions of key workers and asylum seekers.
