Mutually Exclusive Events:

‘two or more events that cannot happen simultaneously’ OR
‘When the occurrence of one event excludes the occurrence
of other event’
For Example:
The probability of getting 1 or 6 when a dice is rolled.
it means either 1 can occur or 1 can occur , both cannot occur
simultaneously
Important Points:
1. Consider one event at a time
2. At last, the probabilities of all individual events are added
up
3. Most of the time ‘OR’ word will come in question
statement (not every time)
Mutually Independent Events:
‘When the occurrence of one event does not affect or influence the
occurrence of other event’
For Example:
The probability of getting 1 and 6 when two dices are rolled.
it means if 1 can occur on first dice , 6 can occur on second dice
Or the Probability of getting two heads when two coins are rolled
Important Points:
4. Consider one event at a time
5. At last, the probabilities of all individual events are Multiplied
6. Sometimes ‘AND’ word will come in question statement (not
every time)
