1. A 100 kVA 250 V/200 kV feed transformer has resistance and reactance of 2% and 4%
respectively. This transformer is used to test a cable at 500 kV at 50 Hz. The cable takes a
charging current of 0.75 A at 400 kV. Determine the series inductance required and input
voltage to the transformer.
- Assume 1.5 % resistance of the inductor
- Neglect dielectric loss of the cable

2. A Cockcroft-Walton type voltage multiplier has 20 stages with capacitances, all equal to
0.04 F. The supply transformer secondary voltage is 150 kV at a frequency of 120 Hz. If the
load current is supplied is 4 mA, Determine,

The percentage of ripple

The regulation
The optimum number of stages for minimum regulation or voltage drop

3. A Tesla coil has a primary winding rated for 10 kV, If L1 and L2 and coefficient of coupling
are 10 mH , 200 mH, and 0.6 respectively. If the capacitance in the primary side is 2 F, and
in the secondary side is 1nF. Determine the peak value of the output voltage. Neglect winding
resistance

4. A 12-stage impulse generator has 0.126 F capacitors. The wave front and wave tail
resistances are 800 Ω and 5000 Ω respectively. If the load capacitance is 1000 pF, (6)

Determine the front and tail times of the impulse wave produced.
Sketch the output voltage waveshape.
