Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles
1. Introduction & Possible Applications:

Hydroxyapatite is chemically similar to the mineral component of bones and hard

tissues in mammals [1]. Active Biomaterials based on hydroxyapatite nanoparticles have
been widely used in many different applications in the biomedical field [2], such as implant
materials for bone tissue substitution, in drug delivery systems, orthopaedic, dental and for
many other applications, due to their high biocompatibility and surface active properties
[3].

2. Preparation Method:

Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles has been prepared by wet chemical method as reported

by Jarcho et al. [4], Yubao et al. [5,6], and Paz et al. [3]. Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles is
formed through the wet chemical reaction of calcium nitrate, with ammonium hydroxide
((NH4)2HPO4) the grain size controlled by changing the time and the temperature of HA
precipitation, with pH values between 10 and 12 and the reaction performed at room
temperature [5,6].

3. Tests:

Size & Shape: TEM were performed on JEOL JEM-2100 high resolution
transmission electron microscope at an accelerating voltage of 200 kV, respectively.
