11. Hunger Deal: India's First Food Delivery Price

Comparison App

In recent years, the number of food delivery applications (apps) in the

Indian market has grown significantly. The competition amongst
these apps is ever-increasing, as a result of which the same food
item's cost often varies across different apps. Users are often
confused about which app to choose, and thus end up comparing
different apps to get the best deal. We aim to make this process of
comparison easier for the users. In this research, we conducted an
online survey with 254 respondents and 20 interviews to understand
users’ needs, mental models, and usage patterns of food delivery
apps. The target population lies in the age range of 18-44 years and
resides in Delhi, India. This research guided us to develop a mobile
app that compares the prices and delivery time of food items across
various food delivery apps. We followed participatory design
methodology, where we engaged with 5 participants throughout the
design and development process. We also present the findings from
the preliminary evaluation with a new set of 20 participants. The
findings show that our app reduces the time and effort users have to
put in to get the best food delivery deal. This work is the first to study
and design a comparison system for the Indian food industry.
