SURFACE FINISH OF FLANGES

1. SCOPE

This specification shall apply in addition to the applicable MESC Buying Descriptions
and the referenced standards.

This specification is applicable to:

-flanges, stub ends, flanged fittings, orifice flanges, spectacle blinds, spades, spacers
flange liners
-body end flanges or body ends (wafer style), bonnet or cover flanges of valves
-flanges for piping miscellaneous components e.g. hose assemblies, steam traps

ASME B16.5 Pipe flanges and flanged fittings, NPS ½ through NPS 24

ASME B16.47 Large diameter steel flanges, NPS 26 through NPS 60

BS 4518 Metric dimensions of toroidal sealing rings ('O'-rings) and their

housings

3. SURFACE FINISH

3.1 RAISED FACE AND FLAT FACE FLANGES

The end flange facing finish for flanges DN15 up to include DN600 shall be in
accordance with ASME B16.5.
The end flange facing finish for flanges DN650 (NPS 26) through DN1500 (NPS 60)
shall be in accordance with ASME B16.47 series A.

3.2 RING TYPE JOINT FLANGES

The ring type joint groove shall be machined in accordance with ASME B16.5 or
ASME B16.47 series A.

3.3 "O"-RING SEALED CONNECTIONS

The groove dimensions and surface finish for static face sealing shall be in accordance
with BS 4518.
