Types of nouns

There are 8 types of nouns:

1.Proper nouns
2.Common nouns
3.Concrete nouns
4.Abstract nouns
5.Collective nouns
6.Compound nouns
7.Countable nouns
8.Uncountable nouns
1. Proper Nouns: Refer to specific or name of places, people,
animals, or things.
Examples: John, Kate, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, RUPP

2. Common Nouns: Refer to the general or unspecific people,


places, things, animals.
Examples: School, pen, book, university, cat, dog, country

3. Concrete Nouns: are nouns that refers to things that exist


physically and can be touched, seen, smelled, felt, or tasted.
Examples: phone, milk, pencil, computer, salt, sugar
4. Abstract nouns: are nouns that refer to the concepts, ideas, or
quality, and we cannot see, smell, taste, or touch them.
Examples: time, luck, goal, ability, skill, love, life, faith, anger,
freedom, honesty, death, sadness

5. Collective Nouns: refer to the nouns of a group of something


in particular.
Examples: The team did the great job in the match.
A bunch of flowers A family
A pair of shoes Audience
A pile of clothes Committee
A group of students A pack of rats
A flock of birds
6. Compound Nouns: contains two or more words that join together
to make a single noun.
Examples: football, toothpaste, post office, son-in-law, homework,
boyfriend, seafood, grandmother, notebook, cowboy, earphone,

7. Countable Nouns: Refer to the nouns that we can count or can be


modified with numbers or quantifying determiner to identify
whether singular or plural.
Examples: It is a bike.
There are six books on my desk.
I see a few bikes under the tree.
8. Uncountable nouns: refer to the nouns used for things that we
cannot count with the numbers. Those nouns are usually the nouns
of the abstract ideas, qualities, or things that are too small, or liquid.
They have only singular form.

Examples: sugar, grass, money, tea, powder, bread, air, oil, rice,
knowledge, beauty, anger, fear, water, coffee, hair, skin, milk, sand,...
