1 Recommendation.
1.2 Objective.
Reporting a recommendation related to an issue that could impact the quality and performance
of some of the applications currently under development.
1.3 Background.
In sought for the development of high quality, long life solutions we considered necessary to
review and evaluate that equipment and compare it against other options available. This way,
we initiated a dialog with specialized personnel at Cognex, obtaining the present
recommendation as a result.
Consequently, in order to avoid foreseeable obsolescence issues, the most prudent approach
appears to be migrating to the vision sensor In-Sight 2000 family, which is currently being
promoted by the manufacturer as the natural substitute for the leaving checkers. Our
recommendation is, then, according to the manufacturer perspective, migrating to the
equipment listed in section 1.6.
# Product ID Product
1CIO-1400 In-Sight CIO-1400 I/O Expansion Module
2IVSL-5PM12-15 SVL 5 PIN 15 METER CABLE (49.2 FEET)
3CCB-84901-2001-15 Cognex X-Coded M12 Ethernet Cable (15M Length)
4CCB-PWRIO-15 Power and I/O Cable, M12-12 (15M Length)
5LM12-SPACER-25-01 In-Sight 2000 M12 25mm Lens Spacer
6IS2000M-130-40-125 In-Sight 2000-130 Vision Sensor
7IVSL-L300-625 SVL 300MM LINEAR LIGHT 625NM Red
8LM12-08-01 Lens, S-Mount M12 8mm f/2 (fixed aperture)
As mentioned above, this is just a preliminary list and should be taken as a simple guide. In
some stations the product-IDs could vary according to particularities of the working area. For
example, some stations will probably need more than one illumination source. In the same way,
the length of the cables or the focal length of the camera could be different from the ones
exhibited, implying different part numbers. As for the lenses, the one showed in the list has a
focal length of 8mm (which is the de facto focal length). The other focal lengths available are
listed here: 3.6mm, 6mm, 12mm, 16mm, 25mm.
It is worthwhile to point out that the vision sensors of the In-Sight 2000 family, as the one
recommended, are more robust and more capable when compared to the originally intended
checkers. This represents an appreciated plus since this fact offers us a wider span of
possibilities during the development process.
1.7 Summary
The study was performed with help from Cognex. Further detailed analysis of particularities of
the stations is still necessary.
