About our facilities here
AkzoNobel Coatings India Private Limited (ANCIPL) is a 100% owned subsidiary of
Akzo Nobel NV. ANCIPL was incorporated in May 1994 and now employs over 170 people.
Our state-of-the-art plant on a green field site outside Bangalore was commissioned in July
1996 and since then, as a result of our parent’s technical strength and global reach, has made
significant inroads into our chosen markets sectors in India and Sri Lanka and started exports
of powder coatings to the Middle East. Lately ANCIPL has ventured into Industrial Coatings
also.

Our plant is an embodiment of clean paint manufacturing systems. All electrical equipment is
flame proof. An elaborate exhaust ventilation system takes care of dust and fume
contamination on the shop floor. This creates a healthy atmosphere for manufacturing high
quality products. This site is a
completely bunded site with zero
discharge to the public domain

The manufacturing process is

standardized and common across the
globe. The formulations and product
raw materials are standardized and is the
same as prevalent across the other sites.

All quality checks are carried out

according to the Standard methods of testing as prevalent at the labs worldwide. The lab is
advanced and has the capability to measure rheological characteristics using various
viscometers, color characteristics using color computers , long term performance
characteristics like weatheribility using QUV , sera water immersion ; salt spray etc. We have
a raw material testing lab with a gas chromatograph to test out the solvent characteristics,
automatic Muller etc. Advanced tools like SQC and GRR are used on a day to day basis for
process and product trouble shooting.

The formulators look at safety by design. We have

product stewardship as a business driver. This
programme focuses on eliminating use of hazardous
raw materials in paint manufacture; example: lead
and chrome free paints; coal Tar free coatings; tin
free anti fouling; use of non mutagenic solvents in
paint manufacture.
High Value Infrastructure (HVI) can be described as “high profile, exposed steelwork,
where the specifier has a high degree of influence on the system used”.

Structures include stadiums, airports, commercial buildings (including high rise, shopping
centres, conference centres, hotels etc), manufacturing facilities (e.g. pharma), leisure, public
buildings, transportation hubs and educational centres.

STRUCTURAL FIRE PROTECTION

When exposed to fire all commonly used structural materials lose some of their strength.
Concrete cracks and spalls, timber depletes by charring and steel quickly loses its load
bearing capacity. Such structural members can be protected to some extent by the application
of specialist fireproofing products.

There are two types of fire protection for structural steel: Passive and Active.

PFP (Passive fire protection) enables owners to safeguard the strength of steelwork, the
integrity of divisions and protect personnel and equipment for the duration of the fire during
escape. The specification of a suitable PFP product for a project is usually based on a number
of factors including the fire type, duration, substrate material (usually steel), substrate type
and environmental location. Fire test approval is also one of the most important factors in
assisting correct specification.

FIRE TYPES

PFP products fall under specific performance categories, usually determined by the type of
fire they are designed to withstand. Types of fire often called fire loads, have a distinctive
time /temperature relationship that is used to categorize the level of security:

9 Cellulosic: intended to simulate natural carbonaceous type materials such as wood

and paper, these fires have relatively slow heat rise and peak temperatures of 950 C

9 Hydrocarbon: intended to represent fires fuelled by oil spills or gas clouds,

characterized by higher heat fluxes and faster time to a maximum temperature of
1100 C.

9 Jet Fires: a unique type of hydrocarbon fire caused by pressurized gases or fuels that
are released through an orifice and then ignited. These produce even higher heat
fluxes; peak temperatures can exceed 1200 C and generate highly erosive forces

9 Rapid rise fires: These occur when fires are in confined space and/or the fuel is
highly flammable as in tunnel or nuclear fires.
CELLULOSIC FIRES:

9 INTERCHAR 963: Thin film, single pack, acrylic, intumescent coating suitable for
30 & 60 minutes fire ratings.

9 INTERCHAR 973: Thin film, single pack, acrylic, intumescent coating suitable for
90 &120 minutes fire ratings.

9 INTERCHAR 212: Epoxy based intumescent providing fire protection upto 3 hours.

9 INTERCHAR 677: Water based intumescent coating providing fire protection of

cables.

HYDROCARBON FIRES, JET FIRES:

9 CHARTEK 7: Epoxy intumescent material Jet fire rated and certified up to 2 hours

9 CHARTEK 1709: Efficient fire protection for high heat rise fires with fire rating
upto 31/2 hours.

POLYSILOXANES:

¾ INTERFINE 878: High gloss and colour retaining top coat, enhanced corrosion
resistance
¾ INTERFINE 979: Enhanced mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, excellent
colour and gloss retention for upto 15 years.

Our polyurethane ranges offer good UV resistance and we have a wide range of primers
providing excellent corrosion resistance.
