Instrument Design Project Packet

BIG QUESTION: How do i nstruments make musical sounds? How are those sounds
changed and manipulated?

YOUR ASSIGNMENT: Design and build your own instrument out of every day
household items. Name it, decorate it, and tell all about it in an instrument petting
zoo!

Tracking Sheet:

 Day 1 – Meet, brainstorm, assign roles (if you choose)

 Day 2- Draw a sketch, list materials, who will bring them, how you will
remember (note from Mrs. Saracino to go home)

 Day 3- Bring materials in, begin to build

 Day 4- Continue building, make changes if needed, plan to decorate (list what
you need, who will bring it, how you will remember)

 Day 5- Finish building, begin decorating

 Day 6 – Finish decorating, begin planning presentation (list what you will
need, who will bring it, how you will remember)

 Day 7 – Finish planning presentation, self-score rubric, make any changes

 Day 8 – Present!

 Day 9 – Independent reflection on what you learned
