ВИПАДКИ ВЖИВАНННЯ НЕОЗНАЧЕНОГО АРТИКЛЯ A / AN

Артикль а вживається перед словами, які починаються з приголосного: : a man.

Артикль an вживається перед словами, які починаються з голосного: an elephant.
Але! a union [ә `ju:njәn] – an umbrella [әn Λm`brelә], a hunter [ә `hΛntә] – an hour [әn `auә]
1. У значенні «один з», «будь-який», «кожний» Choose a book from this catalogue.
2. При згадці чого-небудь вперше A man came up to a policeman.
3. Перед назвами професій або посад He is a doctor.
Але! У певних дієслівних структурах, коли іменники в них втрачають своє загальне значення,
артикль з не вживається: be appointed/ elected/ chosen/ named; be son/daughter/nurse/,etc.) to smb,
work/act/go/be engaged/serve + as + іменник: He was appointed director.
4. У значенні числівника «один» з іменниками, які He will be back in a minute.
