Essay Check list

This is a structure and outline of what is expected to be in your essay. This week your
job is to ensure that you have a draft prepared of your essay that covers all of these
areas.

You must ensure that you are using references appropriately throughout.

Introduction

• Describe what is profit and why this is important to organisations

• Describe what is corporate social responsibility (CSR). Provide a
definition with references.
• Say why organisations look at CSR
• Outline the types of activities that a business may carry out to be called a
corporately and socially responsible organisation USE EXAMPLES
• Discuss how profit is the main objective for a business.
• Link how profit and corporate social responsibility can be seen to be
linked.
• List briefly organisations that you are aware of, and their CSR actions.

Main Body
• Advantages and disadvantages of focusing on profits or of focusing on CSR
(students should show that they can see both sides of the argument).
• Examples of businesses are used to support your opinion.
• Mentioning the impact on the business.
• What are the costs/benefits for the business of deciding to engage in CSR,
• Or if deciding not to engage in CSR?
• Make it clear that you are choosing a clear opinion and actually ANSWERING
the question (ie, to what extent does the student agree).
