The thermostat (1) is arranged in the oil filter bracket. When engine cold, the control piston (2) is being pushed by spring (3) into its rest
position. With the start of the engine lube oil is being supplied under pressure through oil supply port (4) into the external oil supply port gallery
(6) and #1 tappet oil supply (7).

After the engine lube oil has risen (60°C - 65°C), the control piston (2) will be moved by the thermostat (1). The shift will close the oil supply
port (4) to the external oil supply gallery (6). The oil pressure in the hydraulic tappet system will drop. The oil will return via orifice (5) into the
oil circuit.

With cold engine the control piston (1) is in its rest position and oil is supplied via oil gallery (2) to the hydraulic roller tappet in the crankcase.
The servo piston (4) is lifted by oil pressure against the working piston. The spring force is overcome by the increasing oil pressure. The orifice
(3) reduces the oil flow and in front of the servo piston a pressure increase.

The oil pressure moves the servo piston (4) against the working piston (5). The working piston (5) moves up and the fuel advancement is realized.
After oil pressure goes via orifice (3) on the top of the servo piston (4) and a pressure equalization is achieved. The spring (6) moves the
servo piston (4) in its rest position and the fuel advancement is finished.
When lube oil temperatur is between 60°C and 65°C (140° F and 149°F) the thermostat (7) moves the control piston (1) and the oil supply (2) to
the hydraulic roller tappets is closed. The oil pressure in the system drop. The lube oil go via a 1mm orifice in the gasket of the filter bracket
back to the lubrication circuit. The oil pressure underneath the working piston (5) reduces via the 0,2mm orifice (3) in the servo piston (4). The
working piston (5) is moved in its static position by spring force of the fuel injection pump.
If the 1mm orifice in the gasket of the oil filter bracket is closed the oil in the system is drained via normal leckage. This will take approx. 5min.
