BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Into physical crying and moral weeping. Physical crying is called when there are no real
corresponding ideas in mind, nor genuine sentimental feeling of the heart to produce it, depends
on the mechanism of the body.
Then other one is what we called, “moral weeping”. Moral weeping proceeds from, and
is always attended with, such real sentiments of mind, and the feeling of heart, as do honour to
human nature; which false crying always debases.

Some philosophers believe happiness can be understood as the moral goal of life or as an aspect
of chance; indeed, in most European languages the term happiness is synonymous with luck.
Thus, philosophers usually explicate on happiness as either a state of mind, or a life that goes
well for the person leading it. Basically, Socrates is concerned to establish two main points: 1)
happiness is what all people desire: since it is always the end (goal) of our activities, it is an
unconditional good, 2) happiness does not depend on external things, but rather on how those
things are used. Broadly speaking, however, there are 3 main types of happiness, these being
related to; pleasure, passion and purpose.
