Activity 5

Create infographics about Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management systems. Also,
provide an explanation (at least 5 sentences) for EACH infographic.
The first infographic is basically about Environmental Impact Assessment. There, EIA is defined as an
evaluation for possible environmental effects of a certain program or project proposed on accounts such as socio-
economic, cultural, and human-health impacts being beneficial and adverse. On the same infographic discussed its
history on how it started until becoming a mandate around the world. Philippines is an active facilitator of such
assessment even in the early years of its creation. The infographic also shows the principles of the EIA stands for
such as being transparent, cost-effective, and integrated. The process of assessment itself is also included from
Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) being the pre-feasibility study of the project then proceeding to deciding
whether EIA and the process proper is still needed. The infographic also explains how legal, policies implemented,
and institutional framework of the EIA is being different for every country. Lastly, the infographic provides related
studies that are similar with the function of EIA such as the Social Impact Assessment (SIA), Health Impact
Assessment (HIA), and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA).
The second infographic is about Environment Management System (EMS). EMS can be defined as a plan
helping organization in their environmental goals by overseeing opportunities for improvements. EMS includes some
elements such as reviewing the organization’s environmental goals, establishing programs to meet these objectives
and targets, and monitoring and measuring progress in achieving the objectives. The infographic also discussed the
cost and benefits when undergoing such method. The five main stages followed in the said program is also given and
is done in a cycle towards continuous development. Lastly, the infographic relates EMS and EIA as they are both
aiming for solutions of any environmental activities, projects, and programs. There, it is said that the EMS can be
used for turning the environmental impacts identified during the EIA process into practice.
