English Translation of the Poem

Address to Students
If you are exam fear then I am waiting

If you are avoider then I am like a friend

I am a student of knowledge seeker you

If you are the burden on knowledge then I

am the burden on you

If it will be in my hand I will fail to no one

I am restless to pass you all

All city friends are in my class

I am the lonely friend of all these cities

Difficulty during the translation of the poem:
Tulba say Khitaab
1. ‫ انتظار‬in English the word ‫ انتظار‬is the main verb. While in Urdu it belongs to the category
of object. The translator is going to face the issue of sentence structure from one language
to another. In Urdu, sentence structure is Sub + Obj + Verb and in English translator
translates the structure according to the target language. Here the problem will create
regarding parts of speech like here, noun covert into a verb.
2. ‫ صاحب گریز‬in English the word ‫ صاحب گریز‬is not present because it is the combination of
two words, in the Urdu language it gives a different meaning while in English the word
having different translation for both words. ‫ گریز‬meaning in Urdu is Avoid and ‫صاحب‬
meaning is Sir. The pair words may cause problems in the target language for a translator
in translation. These words may fall in the category of cultural words.
3. ‫ار‬AA‫ ب‬in English the word ‫ار‬AA‫ ب‬was creating problems in translation. The word ‫ار‬AA‫ ب‬was
ambiguous in the source language then we are going to translate the word the word ‫بار‬
was creating problems in translation.
4. ‫ بس‬in English the word ‫ بس‬is also ambiguous. In the target language, the word ‫ بس‬was
carrying more than one word like BUS, ENOUGH etc. Cultural-specific words may also
cause difficulty when they are going to translate into the target language.
5. ‫ تو‬in English the word ‫ تو‬is also ambiguous. In the target language, the word ‫ تو‬was
carrying more than one word like YOU AND WHAT. When the words are going to be
interpreted out of context it may also create difficulty in the process of translation in the
target language.
6. ‫ شہر یار‬in English the word ‫شہر یار‬is not present because it is the combination of two
words, in the Urdu language it gives a different meaning while in English the word has a
different translation for both words. ‫ یار‬means in Urdu is Friend and ‫ شہر‬meaning is City.
The pair words may cause problems in the target language for a translator in translation.
These words may fall in the category of cultural words.

Conclusion:
It was concluded that the students got three types of errors in translation, four points of
difficulties in translation, and six factors that influence the students’ errors in translation.
