GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. Name, enrolment number and course/batch must be mentioned in the cover page of the
answer sheet.
2. Questions should NOT be copied in the answer scripts. But clear question number must be
mentioned while writing the answers.

Justified and No borders on the answer scripts.
4. Instruction regarding Plagiarism and Penalties are given below.

5. The Students should upload the answer scripts in the LMS. In exceptional case, outlook (email)
submission will be accepted if there are problems with LMS. Students failing to upload the papers
on time will be marked absent. On exceptional circumstances the course instructor after a
discussion with concerned students might accept the paper. But the discretion will remain with
course instructor. There might be a penalty in terms of marks deduction for late submission for
every 15 minutes. Any submission after one hour will not be accepted
Attempt all questions. Each question is of 10 marks.

Q 1. a) A company X limited is setting up a new plant in India for manufacturing auto components.
India is a highly competitive and cost-effective production base in this sector. Many reputed car
manufacturers source their auto components from here. X limited is planning to capture about 40% of
the market share in India and also export to the tune of at least $5 million in about 2 years of its
planned operations. To achieve these targets, it requires a highly trained and motivated work force.
You have been retained by the company to advise it in this matter. While giving answers keep in
mind the sector the company is operating.
 Outline the process of staffing the company should follow. (3)
 Which sources of recruitment the company should rely upon. (3)

b) “Delegation of authority is key to organizational success”.

Discuss with the help of examples. (4)

Q. 2 a) Naina Gupta stated a start-up called black box two years back, with 8 employees to assemble
economical mobile phones for the Indian rural market. The company was doing pretty well in the initial
one year. The mobile had good features, it was cheap yet durable, it was marketed well so the demand
increased. In order to enhance production, the company came to the conclusion of recruiting more
employees. Naina Gupta was earlier taking all the decisions on her own, now has decided to give
authority to her juniors as well. She believes that her team is very capable and can take right
decisions. This worked for the company and the company was not only able to enhance its production
but also widened the product range with distinctive features.
Identify the concept applied by Naina Gupta using which she was able to take her company
achieve greater heights. In addition to that also explain any 3 points of significance of this
concept. (5)

b) A company manufacturing sewing machines set up in 1945 by the British promoters follows formal
organisation culture in totality. It is facing lot of problems in delays in decision making. As the result
it is not able to adapt to changing business environment. The work force is also not motivated since
they cannot vent their grievances except through formal channels, which involve red tape. Employee
turnover is high. Its market share is also declining due to changed circumstances and business
environment.
You are to advise the company with regard to change it should bring about in its organisation
structure to overcome the problems faced by it. Give reasons in terms of benefits it will derive
from the changes suggested by you. (5)
Q. 3. Mr. Sohil is the CEO of BPT Ltd. The company has built a good reputation in the market and
has been doing pretty good. The company is known for its timely delivery of goods and quick
completion of orders. Ms. Anu is very efficient Production Manager, and handles the processing of
order with a team of 14 other employees working under her. The company was working smoothly.
Unfortunately, Ms. Anu met with an accident few days back. Mr. Sohil panicked as he knew that
without her the company may not be able to meet the deadlines. He is well aware of the fact that not
meeting the deadlines may lead to customer dissatisfaction hampering company’s goodwill. Thus,
three days back he called a meeting with all the employees and took their opinion as to how things
should be planned in such a case so that speedy processing of orders could be done. All the employees
discussed and decided to work as team because Mr. Sohil motivated everyone and was very positive.
Apart from that Mr. Sohil visited Ms. Anu and suggested her to take full rest and get back to work
only after full recovery.

• Identify the leadership style of Mr. Sohil and explain it. (5)
• What is the importance of leadership in modern business? Give example of the leader who has
inspired you the most. Highlight his/her two qualities that clearly make him/her a good leader.

Q. 4 a) “Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision.” In
context of it answer the following-
• Decision making is the essence of management. Comment. (2)
• Managers can’t be rational decision makers in real life. Discuss (2)

b) Make a PPT (4-6 Slides) to present your conceptualization of Principles of Management as a subject.
You can add your favourite topics, any particular learning during online sessions and/ or any moments
that made your remember the subject.

Select some concept studied in the subject and frame your own small case related to that topic
